Things have been quiet from The Vault lately but no longer! We have a new monthly yarn club, combining the best things, it might just be that I’m British but who doesn’t love yarn patterns and TEA! Yes I can’t overstate this, TEA my friends. Let’s not forget that It’s a Third Vault Yarns club, so it’s full of Sci Fi and Fantasy goodness. With that in mind our theme for February is Rey from The Force Awakens, don’t wait, get your sign ups in here as they close on February 10th.
We will also have the first installment of the Quarterly Yarn Club for 2017 opening for sign ups next week.

In the pattern world, we’ve recently released the next addition to the Glass collection of short row centric patterns with Blown Glass, a large drapey shawl, using short row techniques to help your knitting flow and cut down on the really long rows you get in large shawls. It’s also a great canvas for different colour combinations and you can even use your minis to make this shawl your own. So check it out now whilst it is on offer for the KAL.
Speaking of KALs, the For the Love of Short Rows KAL in the Third Vault Ravelry group is starting on Valentines Day, the 14th of February. This KAL is designed to help you get confident with short rows if you aren’t already, or just challenge you to try a new method. It’s fine to have tackled short rows before, if so pick a type of project you haven’t used them in and give them a go there. We want to help you discover or (reinforce) your love of short rows, so come join us! Pick one of the patterns offered for the KAL by some of our fantastic designers or bring one you’ve been hesitant to start and just have fun.

La Belle Dame sans Mercy is based upon a medieval love debate poem; the three panels of this semi-circular shawl represent the three main players in the poem. The middle panel is the narrator who is an unwilling eyewitness to the debate between the lover and the lady. Because he has recently lost his own lady through death, his thoughts are in turmoil with no place to rest. The outer two panels represent the lover and lady, starting off with a somewhat relaxed conversation that turns into a much more serious debate.
The pattern instructions use one main color and three accent colors; however, this shawl is easily adaptable to other color options from one solid color to a main body and border color to gradients. Pattern includes charts as well as fully written instructions, so you can use whichever instruction type you prefer.

The Round Table Yarns Tristan and Isolde Yarn Club is open for subscriptions now through January 31, 2017.
The story of Tristan and Isolde tells of the forbidden love affair between this knight and lady, who is married to Tristan’s uncle, King Mark. Their tale is woven into the fabric of the Arthurian legends, usually as a foil for the love triangle between Lancelot, Guenevere, and Arthur. That love triangle ends in tragedy, with the destruction of Camelot. Does the story of Tristan and Isolde take a similar path? Are the lovers able to stay together? Find out during the course of this nine-month yarn club.
For nine months, you’ll receive one shipment each month of a special yarn club colorway based upon story of Tristan and Isolde. This story has been split into nine parts. Each month, you’ll receive part of the story and a color of yarn based upon that part of the story.
Each yarn color is a surprise that you’ll anticipate each month along with the next part of the story. The colors are exclusive to the yarn club for at least three months from the date of shipment.
Each yarn base will be different and will range from lace to worsted/aran weights. Four of the bases will be regular Round Table Yarns bases (including the new laceweight base), and five of the bases will be special bases chosen for the club. Those bases may at some point be added to the regular lineup, but will be exclusive to the yarn club for at least a month from the date of shipment.
You’ll also have the option of participating in a knit-a-long/crochet-a-long in the Round Table Yarns group on Ravelry, where you can chat with other yarn club members and be eligible to win prizes. In addition, you’ll receive a recommended list of pattern ideas for using your yarn club yarn.

“I’d never joined a yarn club before the first Round Table Yarns club last winter. I was a little concerned about making the commitment; I can be really picky about my yarn and color choices! In my pattern catalog I have a pair of fingerless mitts that I named “I Can’t Control My Fingers” after the Ramones song that kept running through my head when I was knitting the pattern up. For these mitts I developed a super stretchy texture/ribbing that is really the most stretchiest thing ever. I called it Wobble Rib because it looked wobbly and ever since then I have had it in the back of my mind that I needed to design more in this texture pattern. This desire was also heavily influenced by the fact that I Wanna Be Sedated also contains the lines “I can’t control my brain.” and “I can’t control my toes.”
At the end of this past year all I wanted to knit was something comforting and simple and I realized it was time to put my plan in motion. Once I started knitting the Wobble Rib again I didn’t want to stop. It is so satisfying and the wonderful sport weight Yellowstone from Stitch Sprouts only made it better. One of those “I don’t want to quit knitting” situations. So I extended the length to make a super deep fold up brim that allows pretty much anyone to pull the hat down over their ears and still have a generous brim.
A truly unisex piece, this hat will work in pretty much any color you choose. And should you be the kind of knitter that tinkers you can easily adjust the width by adding/removing in 4 stitch increments as well as adjusting the length to suit your fancy.
Like me, the stitch patterns in this cowl are more Swedish than anything else. I fell in love with the tulip border the moment I first saw it, and the sundial… Well, let’s just say that sundials and I go way back. Combine these two stitches with Anzula Burly, a super soft bulky yarn, and while you’re waiting for spring to fulfill its promise this cowl will keep you cozy and warm, regardless of what winter throws at you.
