As an avid knitter, I am always finding ways to add knitted things to my art. Many of you will remember my “Yarnbombed Postcards” from a few months back. Well, I have been busy making more and have finally added them to my shop. Maybe you want to travel to Washington DC? Or the Grand Canyon? Or Beautiful Florida? Well now you can, and get a nice giggle while you’re at it! They make great gifts, or keep them for yourself in a nice frame at home or in the office.

And also, I am constantly looking for more cards, so if there is a location you want to see, or if you have cards you want me to bomb, please contact me and I am sure we can make it work!

The Story
With a love of textiles and color, Margaret Long and Sue Simonton went looking for the ultimate fiber. What they found was suri alpaca.

The Fleece
Suri alpaca bred to the highest standards. Fleece as fine as 16 micron. We have spent 15 years improving the breeding — improving the fleece. Suri alpaca is the rarer, more lustrous alpaca fleece, feels like cashmere and takes dye like silk. Not all suri is the same just as not all wool is the same. Called by Incan royalty “The Fiber of the Gods.”

The Goal
To improve the fleece to a degree of fineness and consistency not thought possible and, produce the finest suri yarns available. The result is heaven in your hands! To be able to do all of this with completely US sources and US processing and to dye in an environmentally safe way. We even recycled all our water and water the pastures with it!

Then along came Margaret’s husband, the engineer and math geek! Dean set about finding a way to increase production for wholesale distribution while maintaining the quality and character of hand-dyed skeins. He built us a dye house where we are now able to dye in 76 skein batches, he even automated it!

Exclusive Colorway: Mantis Shrimp

Our first Purl Diver Color Club yarn is here: Mantis Shrimp on the delightfully squishy Cloudgate yarn base from Lorna’s Laces! Cloudgate is a bulky weight blend of 90% superwash merino wool 10% nylon fiber, which means it’s both soft AND durable. Each skein has a generous 120 yards, so there are plenty of one- and two-skein patterns you can make with it. You can see how this vibrant colorway works up in our sample which is knit using the Roxanne Cowl pattern.

Our colorway was inspired by a photo of a mantis shrimp was taken in Komodo Nat’l Park in Indonesia while Susan’s husband Murray was diving with their son Daniel. We think the folks at Lorna’s Laces outdid themselves for this latest exclusive colorway!

Geometry, tall buildings, ice crystals, sharp edges, crisp lines; in cold country these are rounded, softened by the drifting snows that winter brings. The crisp lines and geometric forms made with yarn overs, decreases, and cables are softened by the fuzziness of the mohair in the yarn. Beads add the sparkle of snow flakes illuminated against a night sky. This shawl is worked from the top down, using short rows to create the crescent shape.
