Hello, indie-loving friends!

I’m working on developing new skin-loving products for Sweet Sheep Body Shoppe and have just dipped an experimental toe into soap-making. This first batch is composed of a green-tinted aloe vera gel base and topped with a soft, creamy layer of whipped goat milk soap, all finished off with a sprinkling of fine jojoba beads. The bright, herbal, Green Tea fragrance of the base mixes beautifully with the softly sweet, citrus scent of Lemongrass essential oil in the topping. The color and scents are perfect for spring!

This first batch is offered at a discount, as I plan to make my bars a little bigger in the future, so snag them while you can! Also, I have a survey going to determine what my customers most want to see in their handmade body care products. Everyone who participates will receive a 25% off coupon via email and will be entered to win one of 10 sample sized solid lotion bars; drawing on April 5th. Even if you’ve never purchased from me before, I value your input and would love to hear what you think! https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/2GHTB6D

Stay sweet,
Alicia

We’re counting down the days, hours and minute til the Outlander series returns to Starz next month! To celebrate, we will be releasing six brand-new project kits featuring our hand-dyed Outlandish colorways and knitting patterns inspired by the series.

Today we’ve released the first project kit in the series, the Time Traveler Vest by Therese Chynoweth! This flattering vest is knit in our Himalayan Trail yarn, and you’ll save over 15% when you purchase the yarn & pattern together in our exclusive kit. Cast on today as we count down the days til the return of Outlander!

In celebration of the impending springtime in this half of the world, I’ve added a new Sweet Sheep lip balm flavor the lineup: French Macaron. If there’s a dessert more spring-like than these pastel-colored, delicate little morsels of delight, I haven’t met it. The lip balm flavor is sweet yet sophisticated, and just a little bit indulgent. I love it, and hope you will, too.

I’ve also re-stocked the bulk of my other lip balm flavors, including Winter Clementine, Lavender EO, Toasted Coconut, Vanilla Mint, Chocolate Cupcake, and Lemon Lime. Sweet Sheep lip balms are handmade with the following natural, skin-loving ingredients: beeswax, mango butter, avocado oil, vitamin E, and the ever-important lanolin, derived from sheep’s wool.

Spring-scented lotion bars will begin to make an appearance in the shop over the next few weeks. The first to re-appear were Spring Meadow (grass, sunlight, flowers in bloom) and Sea Moss (clean, fresh, slightly floral). Yay, spring!

Finally, I’ve begun an occasional feature on my blog, Woolen Diversions, that highlights a particular fragrance and details why it’s awesome. Last week’s fragrance was the tart and bright citrus scent: Kumquat, check it out here!

Stay sweet,
Alicia

Construction and Size
This cowl uses a lace stitch pattern that creates a design that looks like a ring of shields around your neck (see About the Name below). Worked in the round on circular needles in a DK weight yarn, this cowl is fairly tall so you can wear it scrunched around your neck for extra warmth or even pull it up on the back of your head or in front of your face. The suggested yarn is a blend of merino and silk which provides softness and a lovely drape. Pattern includes both written directions as well as a chart for the lace pattern (which is also written out).

Skill Level: Advanced beginner
Skills needed: knitting in the round, yarn overs, decreases

Materials
Malabrigo Silky Merino (51% Silk, 49% Merino, 150 yds/137 m per 50 g skein); 3 skeins; sample uses colorway London Sky (or 400 yds (366 m) of another DK weight yarn)
US 5 (3.75mm) 16” (40 cm) circular needles (or one size smaller than size needed to obtain gauge)
US 6 (4.0 mm) 16” (40 cm) circular needles (or size needed to obtain gauge)

About the Name
Brynhild is a character in the Völsunga saga, which is an Icelandic story from the thirteenth century. The story is probably most well known by the character Sigurd, who famously slays a dragon and eats its heart.

Brynhild is known as a shieldmaiden, a female warrior (also known as a Valkyrie). She is supposed to decide upon a battle between two kings, and instead of picking the king Odin favored, she chooses the other, angering Odin. She is punished by being made mortal and is placed in a castle that is surrounded by a wall of shields (which is much like the cowl—the stitch pattern forms a wall of shields), and she is surrounded by a ring of fire.

Sigurd rescues her (along with getting through the walls of shields and flames, he has to cut the extremely tight armor off of her), and the two seem to fall in love, but Sigurd ends up marrying someone else. Brynhild also marries and she and Sigurd’s wife argue over whose husband is braver, a conflict that reveals jealousies and betrayals. This situation leads to the murder of Sigurd. Brynhild, who is still in love with Sigurd, throws herself onto the funeral pyre.

Tavie is a worsted weight cardigan design which features interesting, lovely cables. The cardigan is knitted from top down, the construction incorporates saddle shoulders into contiguous sleeve shaping (depeloped by Susie Myers, SusieM on Ravelry).

The pattern includes instructions for both short and long cardigan versions with long or short sleeves.

It’s been a while since I updated my Etsy shop, but I have been keeping very busy. Between making new paintings and trying to stay warm, I have also been creating new items that I am sure any knitter would enjoy.

First, I have some gorgeous silk scarves that are decorated with the same stitch motif you see on my shoes. I really enjoy drawing knit stitches and playing with color. These are 100% silk scarves and are decorated using standard sharpies. But don’t let that fool you — they are still an amazing accessory.

The second gift I have created is the “Knitter’s Notebook”. A hand-bound book with 24 lined pages, the front and back are decorated with my watercolor knit stitch motif, as seen on my greeting cards. This was a fun project to learn to do and I expect to add more to my shop very soon.

If you like these products but don’t see a color you like, I will take custom orders on either. Just send me a message.
