Being a sheep farmer has been a little difficult this year as the weather has refused to cooperate. So if all goes well we will be baling hay this weekend. Which means the sheep will be well fed and happy and producing beautiful fleeces to be made into yummy yarns to knit or crochet projects to your heart’s content. So in honor of hay baling and beautiful summer weather we are having a yarn sale on our website until July 15th with free shipping.

We are excited to be working with our local mill to be adding some new natural yarn blends to our line come September. We will be showcasing them at Shenandoah Valley Fiber Festival. Sandpiper yarns is inspired by nature and the colors that surround us. My fiber is sourced from family farms, both domestic and abroad. I hand paint fleece roving and then spin it on my Ladybug wheel, all in my home, two blocks from the ocean on the south shore of Long Island. I choose many sheep breeds, including Merino, Blue Faced Leicester, Polwarth, Finn, Gotland, Icelandic, Corriedale and Targhee. Additionally, alpaca, llama, Tencel, silk and Angora may also find their way into my skeins.

My dyeing process combines hand mixing many colors and then overdyeing for rich saturation. Each small colorway batch is one-of-a-kind and produces between two to 10 skeins per batch.

All Sandpiper yarns are handspun. The spinning process is spontaneous —- deciding in the moment whether it will be bulky, worsted or in between! It is a meditative technique that allows me to be part of a sustainable cycle of turning fleece to garment that has endured for thousands of years!

Fall is the perfect time to try Fluffy U Fiber Farm’s yarns. We are a small farm located in Dover, Pennsylvania. We raise various British breed and heritage breed sheep whose fiber we use to produce our line of yarns. We hand-dye all of our yarns and roving. Our goal is to provide quality yarn and roving from our farm to ewe. Small Business Saturday is fast approaching and we will be offering some incentives for our shoppers.

I’m back from The Southern Adirondack Fiber Festival and wanted to say thank you to everyone who stopped by the booth to say “Hey!” to H.A.Y. It was so lovely to see all of you!

I’ve been dyeing up a storm since I returned and have been stocking the shop daily, so be sure to check in. There are new sock yarns (both speckled and striped), bulky thick-n-thin (perfect for your next winter cowl or scarf!), and fun, funky handspun yarns. Lots more to come over the next week too!
