We’re pleased to introduce our brand-new subscription service to deliver the finest hand-dyed yarns in exclusive colorways, straight to your mailbox: the Purl Diver Exclusive Color Club!

Members of our new club are guaranteed to be the FIRST people to see each new colorway added to our Purl Diver Collection. Since Susan opened the shop, these colors have been created by the best hand-dyers around, inspired by the deep sea photos taken by Susan’s husband, Murray, as he travels the world. Each colorway is exclusive to A Good Yarn and reflects the diversity and beauty of underwater life; there will be different weights and bases, from fingering to worsted.

Each shipment will include a skein of limited-edition, hand-dyed yarn from some of the best indie dyers around, a pattern, and a goodie. We will not be releasing the color in the shop or online for up to a week after you receive your yarn, giving you time to order from the same dyelot if you want more for a project!

There are three ways to join:

6 months billed monthly $33 a month billed through paypal.
3 months billed 1st, 3rd, and 5th month $35 every other month billed through paypal.

We’re pleased to introduce 7 extra-special colorways hand-dyed by Lattes & Llamas on our yak and bamboo blend, Lhasa Wilderness! These colors made their debut in our booth at the Oregon Flock & Fiber Festival last weekend, and they are now available in our online store!

We’re excited to announce that SkeinMinders are now available on our website! Thanks to a our Kickstarter campaign, and special thanks to many of you Indie Untangled folks, we successfully finished the project and recently delivered all the units promised to our backers. Now we’ve started to build them on a continuous basis, in smaller quantities, and they’re available at skeinminder.com. We’re also offering free delivery to those of you who will be at Rhinebeck!

What is a SkeinMinder, you say? It’s a device that automates skein winders, making it an essential tool for any indie dyer with a motorized winder. Just set the number of rotations you want, press the Big Red Button, and that’s it! The SkeinMinder will automatically stop your winder when it gets to the right count, freeing you to do other tasks in the meantime. It also shuts your winder off if the yarn gets jammed.

Use the SkeinMinder to:

My last post said that I would go a little quiet to get a little louder… and that’s exactly what happened at Knitters’ Day Out last weekend! Thank you to everyone who came out, stopped by, and just plain made my first big show a resounding success. I came home excited, inspired… and wiped out! 4th graders at their first band lesson have nothing on fiber people looking for a new project! (Almost.)

Between what sold out and what I’ve taken down to Wooly Minded (should you find yourself on Market St. in Corning), there’s still enough for a very tidy shop update. Look for it on Sunday!

New for Autumn

We’re back from a truly energizing weekend at the Georgia FiberFest and I’m all about making a few much needed changes around here. The first change — and it’s been a big one, not to mention a bit time consuming — is the new look of the online shop. The new set-up should make it easier to shop — just click on the individual listing instead of working with a drop-down box and trying make sure that you are actually ordering the colorway you want. The side bar scrolls up and down, now, too, so I you can click the link to go directly to your favorite yarn. It’s neater, faster, and brighter!

You will notice, though, that some of the yarn labels are “missing.” I’ve decided that it’s time to retire a few labels, what with changing suppliers and adding new yarn lines this year, and the wonderful shoppers at the Georgia FiberFest were more than happy to help me close out that stock. Belle Luxe, Cielo DK, Flock 195, Flock 225, and Flock 335 have all gone away.

Now it’s time to look to autumn for jewel-toned yarns and a darker color palette. I’m looking for natural, earthy tones for my autumn colorways and these can be found in the Journey, Rocket Sock, Rocket Sock Medium, and our newest line, Single Sheep. Single Sheep is our version of the fingering weight single (think Tosh Merino Light) and Blanche, Stella, and Oliver have been gracious enough to give us the fleece off of their backs to make it. Because it’s our first yarn run ever with fleece grown right here at Cedar Hill Farm, quantities are limited. In other words, if you place an order you will want to order exactly what you will need the first time. We also have new colorways of spinning fiber and a bunch of new project bags with grommets.

Third Vault Designs and Yarns is holding a back to school knit-along to coincide with the season transitioning into Autumn/fall and the littleuns heading back into the classroom.

Swing Me Right Round is an incredibly versatile garment. The jumper is designed to be reversible, so if you want to change up your style you can literally swing it right round — hence the name. Pair it with a dress, skirt or jeans, it works wonderfully with them all. The best part is you don’t have to deal with standard sizing: this jumper is designed to be knit to YOUR size. The pattern comes with a spreadsheet that you input your gauge and measurements. This then generates your stitches to cast on, how many repeats you need to do, your increases, stitch counts for important sections and more. When applied to the pattern, you get to knit a garment that will fit you the way you want and you’ll never want to take it off!

The knit-along runs from the 7th of September to the 31st of October in the Third Vault on the Left Ravelry group. You can join in at any time with no obligation to finish by the end of October. Our new Halloween and autumn colorways are now available in our shop! One of our new colorways for Halloween, This is Halloween, was inspired by one of my favorite Halloween movies, The Nightmare Before Christmas. My 7-year-old son also created a colorway for Halloween which he named Pumpkin Smash. Our last Halloween colorway is called Masquerade, which I’m actually thinking of carrying all year round because I love it so much! We also have our Donegal Sock Yarn back in stock for the fall. If we are out of stock of something you want, please contact us! We’re always happy to do custom orders.

Did Someone Say Gilmore Girls Yarn Club?!?!?

I’m such a hardcore Gilmore Girls fan and I can’t even describe to you how excited I am about this new yarn club!

Subscriptions are being taken right now for the new Gilmore Girls Yarn Club over at Kim Dyes Yarn. The three-month subscriptions means you will get a skein of sock or worsted weight yarn in your mailbox each month. Each colorway is exclusive to the club members and will be based on the amazing characters of Stars Hollow.

Out of the three months, at least one skein will be a luxury yarn including silk, cashmere, yak or other wonderful fiber. The club is $70 for three months in the US (including shipping) and $100 for other countries (including shipping).

The first shipment is scheduled for September 15th. Subscriptions for this round are open until September 10th. Don’t delay! Spots are limited.
