Spring fiber festival season is now underway, and I am frazzled as all get-out! I am dyeing as efficiently as I possibly can, all the while taking care to maintain the quality you’ve come to love and expect from Groovy Hues. Next weekend, I am truly excited to be part of a first for the Allentown, Pennsylvania area. The first annual Steel City Fiber Festival will take place at the Merchant Square Mall in Allentown, PA on Saturday April 16, and Sunday April 17 from 10 – 6 PM both days. I love these kinds of road trips, so I’ve already started to pack. 🙂

I will be in booth B2 along the back wall, and I will have TWENTY FEET of vendor space! Oh my gosh. I don’t feel like I’ve dyed enough, but I am truly lucky that my “brother-in-law” Zack Nelson will be my guest booth artisan – he is a truly gifted jewelry and metalsmith, and will have bunches of fiber-arts-related gear to show off.

Come see me. I am dying to meet my out-of-state (I’m in New York!) friends and fans. This venue will have over 30 vendors, so if you’re within driving distance, it’s something you won’t want to miss.

Here’s the website for the festival, but you will be able to find much more information on Facebook if you do a search for the term!

I hope to see you there!

I am a tea drinker. I don’t have anything against coffee—except the taste. It’s awful stuff. Yuck. Anyway, I’d been wondering what to call this design while finishing up my morning tea, and looked at the sweater again. It’s a t-shirt that’s covered with leaves. Hm. A tee shirt or a tea shirt? Covered with tea leaves? We have a winner.

Tee is boxy, and designed to be quite loose, or not. The tee on this lovely model is the second smallest size, and though it was designed to fit a 33-inch model, it looks lovely on her 36-inch frame. Because of the stretchy nature of knitting, this same sweater also fits my 40-inch (ish) chest nicely giving a more fitted look, because of the negative ease.

Tee is knit in the round from the hem straight up to the armholes, then stitches are added for the sleeves with a provisional cast on, and worked straight up to the shoulders, pausing only to shape the neckline. The provisional stitches are picked up for the flip side’s sleeves, and knitting continues. The only seaming on the entire sweater joins the top edges of the shoulders and sleeves.

Throughout the month of April, 2016 there’s a KAL for this and all of my other designs in the knitCompanion group. Join! There are prizes. 🙂 Linky: http://www.ravelry.com/discuss/knitcompanion/3408728/1-25

On April 4, Indie Untangled entered what I am calling the Terrific Twos. I can’t believe it’s been two years since I sent the first newsletter. Aside from spreading the news on shop updates and sales, I’ve also gotten to collaborate with with some talented artisans, including Vicki of That Clever Clementine, Michelle of Berry Colorful Yarnings and Sharri of Buttonalia.

To celebrate, I’m offering 20% off your purchase of all in-stock items from these three Indie Untangled shops:
Indie Untangled/That Clever Clementine
Berry Colorful Yarnings
Buttonalia

Use the code IU2 once in each shop for 20% off each order. I’m happy to combine shipping on orders placed on the same day.

I’ve been wanting to update my shop for awhile, but couldn’t think of new ideas. It wasn’t until an art group I was selling things through returned a stack of unsold cards that I realized I could pair them with some handmade markers. The result is a gorgeous gift set that any knitter will love! Each gift set that includes one homemade knit stitch motif card paired with 5 stitch markers – 4 small and 1 large.

Cards are 100% handmade with an original design painted on the front and a blank inside. Created using all acid free materials so they can last as long as you want them.

Markers are made with mostly Italian beads (gifted by my travel-enthusiast aunt) with coated wire. Beads are kept in place by crimp beads and a dot or two of super glue. The small ones ‘should’ fit size US6 needles, the large size US 15.

Sold and shipped together. If you want separates please see my other listing or PM me.

Made and sold in Texas, US.

The Kitty Invisibility Cloak is a tribute to Mrs. Norris (a cat in Harry Potter) who can sense the kids even when they wear the invisibility cloak. You can see little paw prints on the lace portion of the shawl and underneath, who knows what lurks? Knit your own KIC and disappear into it anytime you like. POOF.

Two ungrateful cats were fired during the photo shoot due to general disagreeability and a butt biting incident.

Use 2 skeins of Hedgehog Fibers Skinny Singles or 2 skeins of your favorite sock yarn — perhaps Dragonfly Fibers Pixie? — to make this shawl.

Hi there! I am so excited to finally be a part of Indie Untangled. I don’t know what took me so long to get here, but, here I am! I am Suzanne, and dyeing is my absolute passion, and ultimate dream, and I can only hope that shows in my work. I take ultimate pride and care with every single piece I create. I am a hippie at heart, so I adore bright, bold, “groovy” colors, but I also embrace my earthy side from time to time. My goal is to bring you soft, squishy, luxurious yarn and fiber with saturated color combinations, both oddball and tried-and-true for whatever fiber art you enjoy!

If there is something you do not see in my shop that you would love to have me create, I heartily welcome custom dye jobs with open arms! There is nothing I enjoy more than a good challenge. I will match a photo, a theme, even a random sentence from a book — and I will not be satisfied until you are with the final product!

Most of my spinning fiber is “one-of-a-kind.” It’s really where I let loose and free myself from the structure of formulaic colorways I have created on most of my yarns. If, however, there is a braid you see that you would like more than 4 ounces of, I am happy to create as much as you’d like with the same sort of color combination. Just let me know, and I’ll set out to create the fiber of your dreams.

Yes, I really am this cheerful and easy-going. With me, whatcha see is whatcha get!

It’s time to celebrate the 3rd anniversary of Lakes Yarn and what better way than a sale? Use the coupon code 16in16 for 16% off any in stock item from April 1st through April 16th. There’s lots of yarn currently in the shop and more yarn will be posted throughout the sale.

The team at Dragonfly Fibers are inspired by color, but that’s not all. For this book, Kate Chiocchio and Nancye Bonomo of Dragonfly started by choosing paintings they loved that represented the full color spectrum of modern art.

Their goal was not an exact match between paintings and yarn; rather, they created colorways that best express what they appreciate about the works used.

Whether it’s bold blocks of color melding together at the edges of a Rothko (and attempting to create a similar effect on Dragonfly yarn) or challenging designers to develop knitwear inspired by particular works of art, Masterpiece Knits will surprise and delight you!

A new base for the shop has been added this week. Currently offering mini skeins and Heel + Toe kits will be available soon!
