The name of her company is inspired by her daughter’s love of all things Dr. Seuss and the wonderful and crazy adventures to be had.

You may or may not know that BigFootFibers also has a podcast on YouTube- the BigFoot KnitCast. I have teamed up with several other indie dyers and we have collaborated to bring you the Avalanche of Indie Dyed Yarn! This past episode included yarn from Jessie at YarnOver New York, Lorna of Zombie Yarns, Rachel of SilkWorm Studios, Baad Mom Yarns, AnnaLisa of Arctic Krafts, and Kim of GingerSnap! This coming episode will see even more indie dyed yarns to giveaway, plus a bag from Hikari Handmade!

This February, BigFootFibers will be at Loops in Tulsa for the marketplace at the Loops Club retreat, featuring Andrea Mowry, Rosemary “Romi” Hill, Ann Budd, and Carson Demers. I am so excited to get the chance to meet Andrea! If you can’t make the retreat and meet me in person, you can always shop my website. Speaking of the website, I have moved the shopping off of Etsy and onto the BigFootFibers website (finally!).

I will also be at the DFWFF in April and Knitting in the Heartland in KC. Show season is proving to be busy, and growth pains in this little dye studio have prompted me to change the way I do shop updates. I am moving to a more scheduled structure for updates, aiming for two a month on alternating Fridays.

This past update I added some Valentine-themed self-striping sock yarns and this coming update will see some additional mini skein sets. I am hopeful that I can meet many of you this year in person! Yarnie friends are the best!

New Year, New Colors

2017 was a great year for me and my indie endeavors. I began dying and selling yarn, having multiple trunk and festival showings in a very short time. And now it’s 2018 and I’m amping things up to make this an even better year.

So why not start the year with two new colorways? “Early Snow Flowers” is a red and brown mix that is sure to be a warm addition to any stash, while “Green Rain Tears” is a nice earthy blend that is perfect for those foresty patterns and designs. Both colors are currently on my Sock and Worsted bases, with more bases coming soon. And as always, you receive a free card with the image of the original painting.

I’ve been on tenterhooks all week waiting for the February 2018 issue of Knitting Magazine to come out. The Geek Chic Issue is jam packed with articles and patterns that talk about the fandoms and the things we get geeky over. For me that’s Science Fiction and Fantasy, Knitting, Computers, Books and Games. Nearly all of which feature here, and guess what.
So do we!

There’s a great profile on Third Vault Yarns, as well as a knitting pattern in our And You’ll Drop Your Weapon colourway, a yarn inspired by Rey and originally featured in the February 2017 YarniTea club. You can also find a very Whovian design on the next page, that I was inspired by the Steampunk style Time Vortex to design. Aside from those two there are a number of other fantastic patterns that I can’t wait to knit, so I would recommend you picking up a copy.

If you’re just looking for a geeky yarn fix then don’t worry, we’ve got that for you and more with “And You’ll Drop Your Weapon,” “Kill It If You Have To” and a bunch of other colourways, including Gamora and Cosmic Turtle both for the first time available outside the Goblet of Fandom clubs they started in.

Speaking of clubs, there are just four days left to get your place on the Vaulter’s Book Club for this quarter. The book for this month is “The Long Way To a Small, Angry Planet” by Becky Chambers, with a knitting pattern designed by Diane Ugo. You get some squishy themed yarn, a specially designed knitting pattern, a little extra and a yummy sweet treat. So go sign up via the Google form or on the website.

I’m so excited to be hanging out at Vogue Knitting Live NYC. My yarn will be at the Wasatch and Wool booth #323 and I’ll be there on Saturday and Sunday. Besides individual skeins of yarn, gradient sets and lots of samples, I’ll also have kits featuring designs from Katinka Designs – my yarnie partner in crime. If you’re there, stop by and say hi!

Once Upon A Corgi is kicking off the new year in gothic style!

The first shop update of the year will premier the Edgar Allan poe Club Colors. Inspired by a classic Gothic American Poet the three month club represents three different short stories and poems in fiber form.

Farnum

I have wanted to create a shawl using an hp style construction for some time. Farnum is the result. It begins with a center triangle worked with yarn over increases. The border is worked by picking up stitches from the center triangle and finally a sideways edging is worked.

This shawl combines several of my favorite things, squishy garter, marled motifs, a sideways edging and color tipping.

Yarn requirements: 2 colors fingering weight yarn (425 yds/389 m each). A perfect excuse to pair up 2 colors from your favorite indie dyer!

My sample was made with Yoth Little Brother — 80% Merino Wool, 10% Cashmere, 10% Nylon (polyamide), 435 yards, 100 grams — in colors Peach and Caviar.
