“Yondah Window” was designed to showcase two of my favorite yarns, the beautiful drape of Magpie Fibers Swanky Sock with the long color changes of Spincycle Dyed in the Wool.

Repeat after me: “Yondah Window” –
Now, you have used your Rhode Island accent to quote part of Romeo and Juliet!

“Yondah Window” is a boomerang shawl that uses slipped stitches to highlight the long Spincycle color changes. You never know what the next color change is and the shawl is a constant surprise! It looks like beautiful windows aglow in the cold, frosty Rhode Island winter which is why I’ve gifted you the RI (or Maine and Massachusetts) accent in this shawl.

Meet two new yarn bases from Spirit Trail Fiberworks, now live in the shop: Aurora and Zaftig! Aurora is fingering weight 100% Superwash Merino single ply and Zaftig is super bulky 100% 20.5 Fine Merino. These two bases are opposites in weight, one is superwash and the other is not, and they’re on opposite ends of the alphabet, but they have more characteristics in common: both single ply, super soft, take dye like a dream, are delightful to knit and crochet (and weave, too!), and simply wonderful to wear.

Zaftig is perfect for super quick knits, so if you (like me!) are staring down the Christmas and Holiday Handknit Gifts Deadline and it’s not looking good, Zaftig could be just perfect for whipping out a few more gifts in time for giving. It’s dyed in a bevy of speckled colorways, and I really love how the speckles turn out on this voluptuous base: they’re softer and more spread out, and give the yarn more of a variegated appearance than true “speckles.” I purchased only a limited quantity of Zaftig for this first run, so I decided to go all out on the Fun Scale with colorways.

Aurora is dyed in both speckles and some great tonal solids to go with them. So, lots of options for one-skein/one-color projects, and also a whole bunch of great color combination possibilities for multi-colored projects (if you need any color combining advice, I’m happy to help so just email me!).

There’s also one new kit dyed on Aurora, which is the “Gray Scale” kit I created for the New York Sheep & Wool Festival. This kit sold out so quickly at the Festival (it’s featured in the photo at the top of this newsletter) I decided to dye it for this update; it’s a beautiful color scheme of subtle speckles over a soft charcoal gray base.

Also new and uploaded to my Etsy shop, I’ve recently dyed a bunch of new silk scarves. This batch turned out so well! Every scarf is like a painting, with fun and interesting bits of color. I really love dyeing (and wearing) these scarves. It’s impossible to completely control the dye process, and it’s always a little bit of a surprise to see how they turn out. They make perfect gifts (although if you’re like me, it can be hard to part with them!).

And, also live now, I’ve put some inventory on sale, both in my website shop and in my etsy shop. On Etsy, the last of the Brigantia color kits are on sale at nearly 50% off. In my website shop, there are Nona and Sunna kits on sale, as well as a selection of skeins in just about every base, marked down 20 to nearly 50% off. You can find the Brigantia kits through the Etsy link above; the sale page on my website is here.

Please note: if you place orders from both my Etsy shop and my website on the same day, I’m happy to combine them and refund the extra shipping charges. And all US orders over $125 ship free! International orders over $125 will receive discounted shipping (I’ll deduct what the US shipping charge would be).

I hope each one of you has a wonderful Holiday season and New Year!

Happy Stitching!

Jennifer

Its official! Asylum Fibers will be doing a monthly color club in 2018. Get your Madness of the Month while sampling a variety of bases.

Each month, you’ll be able to choose between a fingering weight yarn or another heavier base. The color will be the same on both bases and a total surprise. Sign-ups for the January club will be available starting December 15th at 7 p.m. EST and will close December 27th at 9 a.m. EST. Yarn will be shipped out mid month in January.

Asylum Fibers launched in February 2017, after less than a month of planning. Stephanie (the dyer) claims she follows her instincts above all else and isn’t afraid to take a risk. The brand name was thought up in order to incorporate the playfulness of horror flicks while leveraging the other meaning of the word “asylum”, acknowledging that crafting is such a wonderful, meaningful form of therapy and comfort. Stephanie dyes within her Queens apartment in small batches, focusing on in-your-face, vibrant tones and one of a kind colorways on versatile and luxurious bases.

Treat yourself or someone you love to a luxury literary yarn package each month. (If the subscription is a gift, let us know! We can ship the recipient a special card detailing what to expect so they can get excited for their first shipment!)

This yarn club is based on some of our favorite classic novels, it will be all new colorways inspired by the books listed below. Memberships are available for 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months. The longer the membership you buy, the greater the savings. If you’d like 2 skeins of each colorway, pick “Double Dose” when you’re checking out. That gives you the same swag but double the yarn. Colorways will be exclusive to the club for at least 6 months, and if we’re inspired to cook up additional colorways inspired by the book members get first crack at them at a discounted price.

This season of the McMullin Fiber Co. Literary Society begins January 2018 and ends December 2018. Yarn will be mailed on or about the 15th of each month and members will receive lots of extra goodies over the course of the year, like stitch markers, project bags, knitting swag, etc. It’s like getting an amazing swap package in the mail without scrambling to put one together yourself! There will be a mix of our base yarns with tonal semi-solids, kettle-dyed yarns and lots of gorgeous speckles. You choose if you want light yarns (light fingering up to sport weight) or heavy yarns (sport weight up to bulky — mostly worsted weight).

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Can I pick and choose which months I want?
A: Yes. You can either buy a one month membership for each month that you want, or if you want the savings of the longer term memberships you can sign up for 3 or 6 months and list in the notes to seller which months you want (they don’t have to be a consecutive 3 or 6 months).

Q: What if I decide to extend my membership?
A: You can do that at any time by purchasing another membership from the shop. Unfortunately if you decide to add 3 months to a 3 month membership, you won’t get the same savings of purchasing a 6 month membership up front.
