Showing events and classes

Join us for a day of fiber fun as we celebrate World Wide Knit in Public Day, a fundraiser for Project Knitwell. This is free to the public and will include a marketplace and knitting and crochet instruction.

Bring a chair or a blanket, a friend and your current project to stitch in the Plaza at the National Harbor, Maryland. The event will feature a marketplace of local fiber businesses, opportunities to learn to knit/crochet, door prizes, and a silent auction to raise money for Project Knitwell.

We strongly encourage attendees to wear a mask and maintain proper social distancing while in the vendor booths and when in close proximity to others.

This event is free to the public but registration is required. Also, if you would like to volunteer, please check the volunteer box on the registration form. Register here.

It’s almost time for the Softyarn Designs annual winter Mystery Knit-a-Long and this year will be more fun than ever! Lena designed the Fairy Correspondence Shawl pattern in my Fancy Sock base and there are FOUR different kit options available for you. There’s totally something for everyone. Which is your favorite?

Fairy Correspondence MKAL Kits will include the yarn needed for the shawl and a pattern download code, too, so you’ll have everything you need.

My kits will also include special postcards I had made JUST for this MKAL. Lena’s offering a special bonus called Correspondence Connections (it’s optional — you don’t have to do it, but it sure will be fun if you do!) and you can sign up to be matched with one to two people to connect with outside of the KAL chat threads and Instagram! We will be sending ACTUAL mail to each other, and you can use these postcards for this extra bonus if you’d like. Of course, you could just use them as regular postcards anytime you’d like, or toss one in with a gift you’re giving… whatever you want!

We hope you’ll join in on this MKAL! Lena always does a great job with the details and her Ravelry chat forum is always hopping. Preorders for the Fairy Correspondence Kits placed by Saturday 2/26 will ship in plenty of time for you to be ready by the MKAL Kickoff on March 21st. Orders placed after that will ship on a rolling basis, so don’t worry — I’ve got you covered. My kits include the pattern at a GREAT discount — if you buy the yarn, I give you the pattern at no extra cost! Check out the Fairy Correspondence MKAL kits in the shop today and learn more about how it works and get a better look at the kit options. I hope you’ll join the Mystery Knit-a-long with us. We’re going to have a total blast!

With just one event left for the year, I knew that I wanted to create something special to celebrate. There were plenty of perfectly pretty options on my wishlists with some of my favorite bead vendors, but somehow they just didn’t seem to fit the bill. While I was at Shenandoah Valley Fiber Festival, I went wandering (as I often do) and came across a wonderful little button booth sharing vintage designs from decades past. I may have gone a little overboard with my selections, but I just couldn’t resist!

Since we still have a couple of weeks before SAFF arrives, I thought I’d put together a little sneak preview collection for the Indie Untangled community. All of the buttons chosen for this collection come from anywhere between the 1930s and 1980s. From Lovely Lotus to Pinwheel Pearl, each etched mother of pearl button has its own singular shimmering pattern.

Explore these styles and my one-of-a-kind Victorian Button Shawl Pin collection in the Crafty Flutterby booth at SAFF from October 22nd-24th. Which elegant era will you embrace?

We’re less than two weeks away from Indie Untangled Everywhere, the big virtual show hosted by Indie Untangled!

Many of the vendors will be offering show exclusives, including us! We’ll be debuting a brand new yarn and roving. Read on to learn a bit more about our show specials. And remember to get your tickets before the big day (Friday, October 15) by going here.

First the yarn, Terra Pretta. This yarn is a soft, tri-blend of bay black alpaca fleece and dark colored wool from Shetland and Jacob sheep. The yarn gets its name from an ancient cultivated soil found in the Amazon rainforest. Indigenous people created the soil by compositing a variety of the organic matter. Like its namesake, our yarn is a rich brown and brings together different ingredients into a cohesive whole.

The roving is called Cottontail. A blend of mohair locks and Shetland sheep wool, this roving resembles a soft, white bunny tail in both color and handle (or so I imagine!). When spun up into yarn, the yarn has a soft halo to go with its buttery soft feel.

Show attendees will have first dibs on these two products! Learn more and get your tickets.

With summer flying by and fall just around the corner, I thought that we could all use a little friendly reminder to take it easy once in a while. That’s why I’ve invited our newest limited edition friends, the Sincere Sloths, to join the end minder family

The Sincere Sloths are sure to make you smile as they swing along your stitches. They’ll tame your yarn tails, hold joins secure, and act as a softhearted swatch for handy repairs or easy yarn shopping. Sloths are nature’s advocate for slow living. Each time you use them, I hope you’ll be reminded to take a mindful moment away from the daily hubbub.

Swing over to website or mosey into my booth at a festival to treat yourself before they disappear at the end of September!
