Issue 9 of Laine magazine is being released on Friday 20th September and the cover design is the Woodbine pullover made using our Bowland Aran and Eldwick Lace. Sadly, this might be the last issue of the magazine, but we are honoured to have been involved and wish the team all the best moving forward.

So… our next update will go live on Friday 20th September at 7 a.m. (UK time) and will include yarn packs for the Woodbine pullover in six colour combinations with options for the sizes as detailed in the pattern. Also included in the update are other batches of both Bowland Aran and Eldwick Lace which could also be used to select your own colours for this design. The yarn packs will appear on the home page on Friday morning so all you need to do is go to the website and you’ll see them. They work out at a pretty hefty discount compared to buying the yarn separately. If we sell out, please don’t panic — we can produce more. ???? We have also ordered a few copies of this issue of Laine to sell alongside the yarn packs!

This week also sees the fourth anniversary of the release of our Drift Collection. Follow us on social media to join in the celebrations including a discount to all products on the Drift Collection page of the website and a giveaway. To reintroduce the collection we also have a new blog post appearing on the website on Friday showing all the designs reinvigorated in Milburn DK!

Summer is upon us and the lambing season is finally done. If you are looking for a lightweight yarn to knit with this summer, our hand-dyed wool, linen and silk blend is perfect. I just finished Wave by Kristen Finlay with our wool, linen and silk blend and it knit up beautifully.

We are participating in the Save Em to Save Em Campaign and we have raw Shetland and Leicester Longwool as well as Leicester Longwool yarn. We will have Shetland yarn for the fall festival season.

If you are in the Dover, Pennsylvania area, give us a call and stop by and see the farm, our baby lambs, all the sheep and the shop, located on the farm.

Here we are for the fourth installment of the Toad Hollow Book Club. This month, we’re reading The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. I know that some of you have read it already — might I suggest listening to the audio book read by Jim Dale? Helen and I have read the book MULTIPLE times (best book ever!!!!) and we both got a new appreciation for it when listening to it.

This month we are joining up with Jake and Rae from Dogstar Knits Makecast to bring you not one, not two, but three (that’s right, THREE) different takes on Night Circus yarns. Jake’s yarn, Le Cirque Des Reves — which is awesome! — is available only on his site.

For our contribution, we have Tsukiko’s Cloak (dyed by me, Mary Beth) which is 100 grams of pure gorgeousness (on our Sock Toad base — a 80/20 Superwash Merino/nylon mix with 400 yards). Then Helen just lost her mind and dyed five mini skeins because, basically, she just couldn’t make up her mind which of the colors she wanted to choose. They are all based on parts of the book: Chandresh’s Gift is a lovely orange for the kittens he gives the twins; The Wishing Tree is greens and browns and bits of yellow for the wishes; The Carousel is grey with orange, brown and black based on the animals described on, you guessed it, the Carousel; Circus of Dreams is a mixture of red, black and white for the cover of the book and the circus overall; and Open What Is Closed, which is golden yellow and green, is from an impression she got from reading about Widget’s tent of scents (if none of this makes sense to you, it will after you read the book). Each of the minis are 20 grams/92 yards for a total of 100 grams/460 yards.

Patterns: We wanted a pattern that used mini skeins and having just fallen in love with the Gradient Band Cowl from Joji Locatelli while we were at Yarnings in PA, we decided that’s the one! The pattern calls for 650 yards of the main color and 44 yards of the minis. We are altering it just a bit so you don’t have to buy two full skeins and a set of minis. You will have a little less of the main color and a bit more of the minis. It’s going to be spectacular — trust me! And we are offering the super secret extras again this club.

In other news:

The Toads are hitting the road again. This weekend, July 28, we will be at Wool Works in Putnam, CT for a trunk show. Then, when we get back from that, we have to hit the ground running because the Lancaster Fiber Festival is just over two weeks away (OMG — so much to do)! We have just upgraded our booth size to a 10′ x 10′ because our original 5′ x 10′ space will not hold all the yarn and bags we are bringing. If you are a local maker and are free that weekend, there are still spaces available and it’s a fiber festival in August that is INSIDE with AIR CONDITIONING!! Come see us and say HI! we are in booth 323. After Lancaster, it’s full steam ahead for our favorite event of the year, the NJ Sheep and Wool Festival, September 8 and 9.

The Kemper Wrap was designed for By Hand Serial by Mara Bryner (Orange Knits) and we’ve put together some special kits for the release! These kits will be available through June 15th on the By Hand Serial website as a preorder to be delivered before August 1st. The Kemper Wrap combines three elements to make it a totally addictive knit: marling, mohair and a cool construction!

Come join us starting August 1st in the Junkyarn Ravelry group for a Kemper Wrap KAL. Mara will be stopping in occasionally to chat in the threads and we’ll have some lovely prizes to give away!

** Kemper Wrap Kits will also be available this weekend at the Junkyarn Trunk Show at the Knot House in Frederick, Maryland. I hope to meet some of you Maryland and DC-area knitters there! **

Fluffy U Fiber Farm will be at Maryland Sheep and Wool this weekend so come out and say hello see all the yarn goodies that we will have at MSWF. We will have our Conewago Shawl kits, beads strung for spinning and art batts, just to name a few things.

We also will have our Spring Lilac colorway which we used for our block in the Indie Untangled Collaboration Afghan block. New colorways and new yarn blends will be popping out of our stand this weekend. For those of you who can’t make it to MSWF this year, we will be listing everything on our website after Maryland and we will have free shipping until June 30th.

I’ve been on tenterhooks all week waiting for the February 2018 issue of Knitting Magazine to come out. The Geek Chic Issue is jam packed with articles and patterns that talk about the fandoms and the things we get geeky over. For me that’s Science Fiction and Fantasy, Knitting, Computers, Books and Games. Nearly all of which feature here, and guess what.
So do we!

There’s a great profile on Third Vault Yarns, as well as a knitting pattern in our And You’ll Drop Your Weapon colourway, a yarn inspired by Rey and originally featured in the February 2017 YarniTea club. You can also find a very Whovian design on the next page, that I was inspired by the Steampunk style Time Vortex to design. Aside from those two there are a number of other fantastic patterns that I can’t wait to knit, so I would recommend you picking up a copy.

If you’re just looking for a geeky yarn fix then don’t worry, we’ve got that for you and more with “And You’ll Drop Your Weapon,” “Kill It If You Have To” and a bunch of other colourways, including Gamora and Cosmic Turtle both for the first time available outside the Goblet of Fandom clubs they started in.

Speaking of clubs, there are just four days left to get your place on the Vaulter’s Book Club for this quarter. The book for this month is “The Long Way To a Small, Angry Planet” by Becky Chambers, with a knitting pattern designed by Diane Ugo. You get some squishy themed yarn, a specially designed knitting pattern, a little extra and a yummy sweet treat. So go sign up via the Google form or on the website.

It has taken two years of collaboration between two crazy English teachers from Georgia and Washington state, but just in time for holiday knitting, my first knitting pattern book is finally LIVE! I have designed seven of the patterns in the collection, and the photography and bunny-soft beret pattern are courtesy of my partner, Michelle Guilmet-Buck.

South is a collection of modern accessory patterns that blur the lines of culture, gender, and generation. The eight patterns in this collection are designed to be adaptable to any situation or social event, as well as being relatively straightforward and easy enough for even the knitting novice. The collection includes four patterns for women and four patterns for men. Although the book is available in its entirety electronically, because we have elected to first make it available online, it is also possible to purchase the patterns of the collection individually. The pattern collection is available on Ravelry, as well as the individual patterns. Craftsy offers the individual patterns for purchase as well.
