Our popular “Day to Night” rolags are restocked! Part of the Woodland Tweed collection, these are SW Merino with a touch of tussah silk and gold banana thread.

I made a small sample spinning one rolag end to end for each of two singles, then plied them together, matching the colours for a simple 2ply. They were spun semi-woolen on my Lendrum wheel. So many ways to spin rolags! You could spin as I did, end to end repeatedly, for a distinct small repeating stripe. You could spin them matching pink to pink and blue to blue to make those stripes longer. You could create a fractal-ish yarn by staggering the singles. You could pull them apart and pool the colours, mix or ply them with another fiber… There are endless possibilies. If you spin some “Day to Night,” we’d love to see it! Sumbit your photos and description through our Contact page. Happy spinning!

At WoolenWomenFibers, the holidays are about more than just making. They’re about creating memories and savoring experiences. This season, we’re thrilled to share two special offerings that bring together yarn, stories, and surprises in a festive way.

This shawl falls under The Giver category in my Fibre Muse titled bundles.

The Giver Fibre Muse uses knitting to make a difference in other people’s lives. They are very compassionate, kind and understanding. They will prepare months in advance, knitting up projects for their friends and family to give as gifts, because they understand the joy and thrill of receiving a handmade piece. Even if they aren’t always properly thanked (because non-knitters don’t get the amount of time, effort and skill that goes into their gift!), knowing that they left a special mark in someone’s life, lightning up their day, makes them happy and gives them a sense of purpose. In a world where there is not enough empathy, knitting is a way to help heal and serve others.

During the holidays or any special event, they get way more excited watching others open gifts from them than they do receiving presents. A charitable soul, they believe in the importance of giving back to their community in anyway they can: through supporting businesses that share the same values, volunteering or supporting charitable causes, or even just being a friend in need, a shoulder to cry on. But don’t think that the Giver is a pushover. If there is an issue they care deeply about, they’ll be the first ones to take action, speaking up and declaring their trust, protecting those who need protection. Some Givers may even use their craft as a form of activism, the driving force to make positive, powerful change.

This primary sense of giving to others, to improve other people’s lives, is what makes the Giver unique from their sibling Muses, the Seeker, Dreamer and Mystic. While all Fibre Muses share aspects of each type, this drive to give and serve most strongly resonates in the Giver.

Lisa introduced Huespun in a recent newsletter with an especially apt title, “From community to color,” and I thank her for those succinct words that express how I feel about what I do. Knitting, dyeing, and indeed all crafts and arts, are solitary processes, but there are many joyful, memorable moments when we come together in community to enjoy and share our passions as well. I love when I can involve community, and this is one of those moments that I want to share with you.

My sweet niece is expecting fraternal twin girls and we are all over-the-moon excited! I felt inspired to create a line of baby colours, some traditional pastels and others, more modern, muted, and deeper shades. I’ve played with the yarns and I can’t find a single combination that doesn’t work together. I’d like to say that was intentional, but I think this collection just has good vibes.

This Google Form is an opportunity for you to influence and share your thoughts on baby-related names for each of the 13 colours in this collection. Thirteen is a lucky number in this household. No bad karma here! I’ll announce the winning names and provide a discount code in the newseletter. Thanks for playing along and being part of this community!

At Which Way Crafts, the small details matter just as much as the grand adventures. Our stitch markers have always been more than simple tools: they are tiny treasures, bits of jewelry for your yarn, each one designed to bring a touch of vintage elegance and charm to your craft.

And now, they arrive with even more delight: all of our stitch markers ship free, no matter where you are in the U.S.

Whether you favor our Art Deco-inspired sets, our whimsical yarn-themed charms, or our collectible “yarn jewelry” designs, you can tuck them into your project bag without worrying about extra costs at checkout. Consider it our way of saying thank you for letting Which Way Crafts be part of your creative journey.

Once Were Weavers celebrates the complexities of the Māori that colonization tried to erase. The name subverts the title of a brutal movie, “Once Were Warriors,” a story that displays the violent image of Māori culture and reduces it to this one view. Instead, this shawl rejoices in the depths of our culture which reveal us to be scientists, voyagers, navigators, warriors, gardeners, weavers, makers, artists.

The stitches used in this shawl represent and sometimes mimic traditional weaving techniques. Lace stitches and tassels imitate feathers, a common decoration for traditional Māori cloaks. A special combination of dropped and cable stitches approximates a cabling done in weaving, and you’ll marvel as these stitches come together in your hands.

Sitting easily on your shoulders, this three-quarter shawl will become the perfect partner for any occasion. Knit it up in linen yarn for warm days or wool for the cool nights of winter.

Download, select your yarn and cast on today for a beautiful meditation on the complexities of indigenous culture.
