Are you ready to make all your fiber friends happy?

I am delighted to introduce you to Happy Knitting Boxes: four different boxes with a selection of our best accessories for fiber lovers, including hand-dyed (or hand-printed) project bags, unique stitch markers, wool soap, and knitting patterns. Boxes contain an array of handmade and handpicked items of the highest quality, made in France or Europe, by us at La Cave à Laine, or by our trusted collaborators.

All boxes are completely religion and gender neutral, allowing you to enjoy it in every season and to give it as a present to all your friends. They come in cardboard boxes and every component of each box, from the mailer bag to the last of the wrapping, is entirely recyclable.

Palettes for Making Undyed Yarns Pop!

At Gothfarm Yarn, we love our neutral shades. After all, our last Indie Untangled blog post showcased our array of gray yarn and roving!

But working with our undyed yarn doesn’t have to mean projects in muted colors. Check out four color palette ideas to make striking knits with our undyed, naturally-colored fibers! Each palette photo is posted in the same order as the list below.

#1. Harmonious
This palette uses three yarns in earthy hues. The colors work together; one doesn’t dominate over another. Our two brown yarns — Aswan and Ultisol — form a marled background. The gray yarn — Gabbro –creates a solid foreground shape. Aswan’s subtle gray tweed helps strengthen the color harmony.

Yarn guide:
Light brown: Aswan
Dark brown: Ultisol
Gray: Gabbro

#2. Dye Collider
There’s no reason why undyed yarns and indie-dyed yarns should live in different worlds!* In fact, undyed yarns can create a neutral canvas that can make indie-dyed yarns pop! In this palette, our white yarn — Bone — is combined with hand-spun dyed yarn from Hedgehog Fibres. An added bonus: Bone’s fuzzy halo helps blend it all together.

*as long as the dye is well-set, and the finished product is gently hand washed in cool water.

Colored yarn: Hedgehog Fibres hand-spun (personal stash)

#3 Marled Metallics
Our golden, lace-weight yarn – Aten – can add shine and class to any project. Simply hold it together with your main yarn to create a marled metallic look. We paired it here with our matte-gray yarn Nebelung.

#4 High contrast
Undyed yarn is known for complex, rich neutrals. You can make neutrals pop by choosing a high-contrast colorwork motif. A classic example of that is Houndstooth. This club is still fantastic!

I cannot believe that this month I shipped out the sixth installment of my Fantastic Socks club — and guess what? It’s still fantastic! With each colorway I create, I feel as though I’m stepping even more into the Wizarding World. And as I went back through and shared photos of all of the colorways for the year over on my Instagram, I realized just how much I’m enjoying the journey. I would love to have you join me. There’s still a long ways to go before it’s over!

The club is officially called Fantastic Socks: a yarn club inspired by Newt Scamander. It’s a year-long club that began in April featuring colorways that bring Newt’s magical creatures to life. I had to choose only the most interesting and inspiring creatures to include in the club, and it was tough to narrow it down! We’re halfway through the club, and it’s been insanely fun dyeing up so much magic. Every month features a surprise colorway created by yours truly (Annie of Dreamdust Fiber Co.) and will be dyed on fun sock bases that may or may not be in my current line-up OR ever be available in my shop again.

I really hope you’ll come with me on this colorful journey into the magical world of Newt and company!

Stitch Marker Sets for Stephen West’s Slipstravaganza MKAL 2020!

Those of us who LOVE Stephen West — and frankly, who DOESN’T??? — all wait in slightly frantic anticipation for his yearly Mystery Knit-A-Long, that KAL that mystifies and delights us every year! Well, this year he did NOT disappoint, and from what I understand, you’re going to need at least 54 stitch markers to finish that sucker! So to assist you with that, I have curated sets of 60 markers for you to complete the MKAL — 54 to use, and an extra six to invariably get lost/fall into the sofa cushions/get stuck into play-dough by you toddler (true story!).

All 60 markers will match and be in needles size US6/4mm, which should accommodate the needs of the pattern. The varieties available are:

JUST VANILLA, LIKE TERMINATOR 2 – Nice Bland Bright Silver wire with Crazy Killer Mercurial Futuristic Assassin Silver glass beads.

Pattern Pockets are Back!

New pattern pockets are back in stock! If you recently received a Grace bag, you’ll want to make sure you grab one of our matching Pattern Pockets to go along with it!

The Pattern Pocket is a handy tool for storing and viewing your in-progress knitting patterns. The clear vinyl pocket stores multiple sheets of paper easily, and enables you to read and follow your pattern without having to remove it. The unique design folds in half and fits in most bags for easy portability, and can be snapped in a reverse position, creating a built-in stand so that you don’t have to keep leaning over the table to read your pattern.

The clear vinyl window allows you to use highlighter tape or wet erase markers to mark up and follow your pattern, then wipe with a wet paper towel when you are ready to move on!

The Pattern Pocket is made from 100% cotton fabric, lined to provide stabilization, and closes with a heavy-duty snap.

Dimensions: Approximately 12″ x 9″ open. When folded it’s approximately 9″ x 6″, and 1″ thick. You can easily store at LEAST 12 pages in here (which is what I have done – I haven’t needed to try more yet)!

Hello, I’m Sam, the dyer behind Star Eater Yarns. I just recently opened my online shop. I dye colours that are inspired by the “strange and unusual.” I lean towards a lot of darker colours and more muted ones. I gather inspiration from fantastical themes, spooky things, and macabre occurrences.

The bases I offer are all Superwash wools, from classic Merino, to Polwarth and BFL. I even have a very sparkly base that has Lurex instead of Stellina. All the yarns I use are ethically sourced and come from farms where mulesing is not practiced. The facilities that produce the Superwash wools are all certified to handle and dispose of (or reuse in most cases!) the wastewater properly.

I’m willing to work with customers to make custom orders including different weight yarns from what I currently carry.

I offer free U.S. shipping at $65 and free international at $200.

Why should kids have all the fun on Halloween? This year, I wanted to do something fun for grownups too. I’m offering a special Trick-or-Treat Bag so you can trick or treat yo’self.

Here’s what you can look forward to:

You’ll get one full skein of mystery yarn. You can choose the weight you prefer or embrace the fun and let me surprise you. Each skein comes with a fun “Trick-or-Treat” Surprise just from me. Shhh… it’s a secret! I’ll also throw a special prize into every sixth one ordered, so maybe you’ll be one of the lucky recipients! Each Trick-or-Treat Bag is packaged separately, so feel free to add as many as you’d like to your cart. You can get one or two for yourself, one for a friend… whatever you’d like! You could even hedge your bets and order six, so you’ll be guaranteed an extra prize.

Feel free to leave me a note when you check out with a little direction to help me choose your colorway. That adds to the fun on my end, and helps you get something you’re going to LOVE (see the product listing on my website for tips on what to say)! I cannot fulfill requests for specific colorways or guarantee an exact match to your hints, but I’ll definitely do the best I can. You know I want to make you guys happy! I’m so excited to send out some special mystery packages so my customers can feel like kiddos on… well, on Halloween! ????

Join our Knit-a-Long and Advent Calendar!

Hello from Stardust Fiber Studio!

Time has almost run out to sign up for our studio’s first virtual Knit-a-Long! Sign up by September 30th, 2020 to join us in all of the fun! The pattern we will be doing is the beautiful Waiting for Rain shawl by Sylvia McFadden. We are extremely excited to be able to showcase our new base collection with this gorgeous pattern! The Knit-a-Long will be for the one color pattern, but for those that are up for a challenge, the pattern also comes with modifications to add a second color, more lace, and different cast-offs. We will be listing color combinations to choose from for those who want two colors. This knit-a-long will run from November 1st to December 31st. The Knit-a-Long kit comes with two hand dyed skeins of our signature yarn and an exclusive Knit-a-Long stitch marker set for your project!

During the Knit-a-long, we will host a weekly Knit and Sip via Zoom Wednesday nights from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM PST, so that you can hang out and chat with other knitters. Break out your favorite tea or drink and join us. You can be a part of the Zoom calls by joining our new Community Group on Facebook. Not only will you finish this knit-a-long with a beautiful new shawl, there will also be giveaways for participants along the way! We are so excited to have you join us. The kits for the knit-a-long will be available for purchase through the end of September in order to give us time to dye before the start date in November.

September 30th, 2020 is also the deadline to purchase our first annual Advent Calendar! These gift boxes will include 24 individually packaged mini skeins to open throughout December and one full skein to open on Christmas. All of the yarn in this calendar is in our signature fingering weight base, Andromeda. There will also be lots of little gifts and surprises in each day’s box as well. This is a perfect gift for yourself or your favorite fiber artist this Christmas. There will be a few “traditional” Christmas-themed skeins, as well as a variety of jewel tones and timeless colors that can be used in a variety of projects!

Not only will we have our yarn Advent calendar this year, we will also have a stitch marker Advent calendar available for the avid collector. You will receive daily presents to open with unique, handmade stitch markers, and on Christmas you will receive one of our new Analog Row Counters. Both the yarn and stitch marker advent calendars will be available for pre-order until September 30th.

Since the mornings finally have that crisp breeze that signals a new season, I thought it was about time to share my newest shawl pins. These Charmed Styles range from wilderness finds to spooky delights. I can’t wait to see which projects you style with these! 

My favorite of these new additions is the Rowan Leaf. In traditional folklore, this tree is said to grant protection — especially to travelers. Its power was to keep those on a journey from getting lost. Since each of us have our own unique path to follow, I thought this charming talisman would be a special treat for all.
