In My Romantasy Era

I’m normally sewing bags all the time — it’s what I love to do. But a couple of things happened this summer. First, I broke several toes and couldn’t use my sewing machine. And second, I spent a lot of time with my foot up, reading romantasy novels. Love stories set in fantastical worlds… I couldn’t get enough.

While I couldn’t press the pedal on my sewing machine, I was able to make some gorgeous stitch marker sets inspired by my summer reads. Each set includes four stitch markers and a progress keeper made with pretty, colorful beads. The markers are large loops of thin wire, so they’ll fit over almost all needles, and won’t leave a ladder in your knitting. The large loops also mean that the marker is hanging out of the way below your working yarn. I hope you’ll like these as much as I enjoyed my books. Each set is unique so don’t wait if there’s one you love.

Excited to be back as a Wool and Fiber Arts (WAFA) vendor this month. Join me for my live sale on Saturday, September 28 at 3:30 Central time. The sale will be on the Wild Hair Studio and the Wool and Fiber Arts Facebook pages.

The Wool and Fiber Arts theme for September is Threads of Literacy. I am working on rolags inspired by Anne of Green Gables, The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings, my very own LITE The High Treason Incident and The Forgotten Doorway, and other books as time allows. I also have plans for batts and a few fiber bags. I will have needle felted sculptures – chickens, gnomes, ghosts and a new design – clown gnomes.

I will have an Etsy shop update on Sunday, September 29. Please stop in and see all the new fiber temptations and finished items, both needle felted and decorative painted items.

The Advent Preorders will close on October 1. They have already sold out once and I have added 2 more to the shop. Grab these if you want to spin your way through the Shire come December 1.

2024 December Advent Calendar Preorder Details

Theme: Christmas in the Shire (inspired by The Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit)

Each Advent calendar will be 24 small packages of fiber, one larger package of fiber and one non-fiber surprise from my studio. The 24 smaller fiber packages will be rolags and the larger fiber package will be a batt. The rolags will be Merino wool. The batt will be Merino wool, wool from my farm and other luxury fibers.

Total fiber in the package will be 14 plus oz.

It’s almost time for Lambtown Festival! We’re the biggest baaaaaadest festival of sheep, fiber, and yarn in California, and we’d love for you to join us for our 38th year on October 5 & 6 in Dixon! We’ve got a ton to see and do over two days — there’s a barn full of sheep, shearing demos, sheepdog herding demos, short educational demos from vendors, workshops from experienced and wonderful teachers, and a Wooly Adventures activities area for kids or the young at heart. There are over 75 amazing vendor booths with more yarn and fiber than you can shake a crochet hook at, plus all sorts of tools, handmade textiles, baskets, pottery, notions, skincare, and more!

If you’re feeling a little competitive, enter your fleece in our Wool Show, sheep in our Sheep Show, or your handspun yarn or finished object in our Skeins & Textiles competition. Everything features live judging, which is always educational and fun to watch. Speaking of fun to watch, we also have a Sheep to Shawl competition live on Sunday. Enter your team or watch the teams weave it out for ultimate shawl glory!

Feeling more chill? Bring your project or spinning wheel and picnic on the lawn, or find community in one of our meetups (or host your own meetup!). We’ve also got many food and drink options and live music outside. Don’t want to deal with driving or finding a ride? We’ve got the Wool on Wheels Bus from San Francisco and Oakland on Sunday, so you can get in some extra crafting time on your way to and from Lambtown Festival.

Introducing our new Bits & Bobs boxes! These boxes contain the perfect project that is not your usual shawl, blanket, sweater or accessory, but a fun way to knit up little bits and bobs with a story attached!

These boxes will contain a fun project to create something small and fun for your craft room and include special handcrafted buttons and accents by SamsTinyTrinkets. We are planning to release these quarterly, so there will be more stories and fun themes to come, with so many different projects to create.

The current installment is the Enchanted Toadstool Brew Box, which includes two patterns by Sarah Schira of Imagined Landscapes.

The story:

Tobias Toadstool is a Gnome-y barista at the Gnickgnackery specializing in the very best toadstool lattes this side of Blusterberry Hollow. Although there is “gnome place like gnome,” adventure awaits this little gnome as he ventures into the forest in search of the perfect blend! He takes Timothy on his long foraging journeys to find the most delicious, earthy mushrooms in the Rumble Woods. Timothy, only the height of the tallest toadstool, gladly takes a seat in Tobias’s backpack for a better view to scout the best mushrooms!

Colour Wheel Adventures Yarn Club

Come join us on a year of colourful yarn adventures! We’ve been having so much fun with our current Colour Wheel Adventures club members that we’ve decided to open up registrations for a second group! This round of the club will start in September, and will run for a full year (through August 2025).

If you’re missing the feeling of “back-to-school” preparations at this time of year, now’s the time to sharpen up some coloured pencils to get ready for your first box! In this club you’ll learn all about colour relationships and how to confidently apply colour theory to your knitting projects, practice a variety of colourwork techniques, and create your own unique patchwork blanket.

Our Colour Wheel Adventures yarn club is a year-long guided exploration of the colour wheel and colour theory in a fun and playful way. Each month you’ll receive four 25g mini skeins (three hand-dyed colours + one natural) and two new blanket square patterns to play with. We’ll host an online discussion group and regular Zoom meetups to discuss what we’ve learned and share our colourful experiments!

We want to offer our members an amazing experience including the yarn, mini-course, and community, while keeping it as affordable as possible. The cost to join is just $42 CAD/month, and includes free shipping within Canada. (Shipping is $5 CAD/box to US addresses)
