Showing gifts and accessories

I am sure many of us are working on holiday gifts or hurrying to knit those sweaters for the family photos! But I have a little something this week that may be a fun project for yourself. Or, team up with your LYS to kit up some yarn for your favorite knitting friend to gift them a new project.

The Spiced Cider scarf is so squishy and warm… I wore it all weekend as the temps dropped to below freezing here. It was perfect for standing outside with my pup Sophie as she did her business. ????

Spiced Cider is knit using Blue Sky Fibers Extra (you will need three hanks or 505 yards of Aran/heavy worsted-weight yarn) and a US 9/5.5 mm knitting needle. This scarf is filled with cables and they look a little complicated, however they are not (I promise)! There are tips to knit this without the cable needle, too. You can easily adjust to whatever length you wish (that will affect your total yardage, so keep that in mind). But this is a wonderful squishy scarf that is sure to please all those knitworthy people in your life!

Happy making, friends!

Isn’t it funny how something can begin as a seed of an idea and then can grow into something that becomes an intergal part of your life?

Last year, I turned to my husband and said, “You know that Mother’s Day box we did this year? I’d like to do MORE of those!”

It was just three boxes out of a whole year. We’d already done one, I thought for sure it’d be easy to just add two more…

Little did I know that those three boxes would become so central to my entire year.
They were the receptacle of all of my creative juices — every whim and desire.
They fed my soul to bursting as I planned every little thing, made dream boards, and currated until everything was a perfectly packaged gift.
They were the source of sleepless nights and aching muscles as we moved hundreds of boxes around our studio.
And they were the straw that broke the camel’s back and let us know that we DEFINITELY needed a bigger space.

But best of all, they created something that I never could have predicted.
A community of wonderful friends.

I am grateful for that most of all.

Thank you my dear friends for giving me such a beautiful year.
It was a gift.
For me as much as for you.

And I can’t wait to do it all again next year!!

Hello from ECY Shedquarters. We have been very busy with getting lots of yarn ready for the website and preparing our Seasonal Stash Boxes. This week alone we have added Titus 4ply and our sparkly festive Rosedale 4ply update. This includes Festive Fun (cream with green and red speckles) alongside Apeldoorn Tulip (a rich red) and Larch (dark green). Rosedale 4ply is a Merino/nylon sock yarn with gold Stellina sparkle running through it. You may think that the sparkly fibres would be itchy against your skin but even the more sensitive members of our team find it comfortable to wear against the skin.

We also have an update of Hayton 4ply hitting the website on Monday 26th November. Hayton 4ply is a delicious blend of Merino Cashmere and nylon giving all the best qualities you would want in a yarn: softness of the merino, strength from the nylon and luxury from the cashmere. If you are a fan of Liz Corke and her patterns you should be very familiar with this blend. Liz’s latest pattern Tar-Sgàil uses Hayton 4ply as do many of her fingerless mitt patterns!

We are down to four Seasonal Stash Boxes left at the time of writing so if you are interested in getting your hands on one don’t delay! The listing now also has a link to a folder which shows the contents for anyone who would prefer for it not to be a surprise!

For readers in the UK we have been confirmed as vendors at East Anglia Yarn Festival on 9th-10th March 2024. Tickets for the show go on sale on Saturday morning so if you want to see us in person it would be great to see you!

One thing can be certain — with all the spectacular sock knitters we know, none of our fiber friends wear plain white socks! And neither do their family and friends. We’ve got some gorgeous sock sets to support your sock knitting. If you aren’t going to feed your stash, then let a friend or family member know, because you’d sure love to get one of these for a holiday gift.

We still have a couple of beautiful hand-painted sock blanks. Not up for socks? We’ve seen a few gorgeous Alpine Bloom (by Boyland Knitworks) sweaters/hats using a sock blank for the colorwork. Also, as tradition demands, we’ll be hosting a Christmas Cast On make-along.

We’ve brought some new items and some restocked items to our Coco Knits corner of the shop. Check out the Project Wallet, perfectly made for travel, and the Maker’s Clips are the most useful little items we’ve ever seen. These are some of the best crafting tools on the market.

We still have the Atenti Mimi preorder open! Exciting new bags from Atenti with their new Mimi fabric — a little boho, a little crafty, a little sugarplums dancing — talk about magic! The preorder will be closing soon, so you don’t want to miss out!

We’ve also restocked some of your favorite colorways, so you can be ready for all the projects you’ve been dreaming about.

Make sure to set up and complete your WISH LIST.  As the holidays approach, our wish list program will help assure you get what you want. We’ve got new acrylic pins in the shop, a much better stocking stuffer than dental floss!

Remember that we offer free shipping on orders over $150, so do a little holiday shopping and save those shipping fees. You were going to buy those gifts anyway, why not shop with us? See a few suggestions and learn more below.

Last but not least, we go live on our YouTube channel, The Traveling Two Ewe Knit, every Saturday morning at 9:30AM Eastern time. We’ve got so much to tell you! Grab your coffee or tea, your yarn, and let’s have a great time together!

Fiber friends are the best friends! Thanks for being a part of our yarn community, and we’ll be back next week for more updates and adventures!

Hello from ECY Shedquarters!

Our Festive Seasonal Stash Boxes are well underway and will be ready to ship by the end of November. We are making them available to newsletter subscribers and members of our facebook group first and then for general release on the website on Monday. If you’re not familiar with our annual festive boxes we start with a handmade project bag from Ellen Shek and I then dye yarn to coordinate with the bag. We select a few other festive treats, package it up and post them out to you. They make a lovely gift for the yarn fan in your life or a special treat for yourself! If you are gifting during the festive period check out our Christmas posting dates blog post.

Also coming on Monday we have a Titus 4ply update. Titus 4ply is a true ECY classic, Superwash extrafine Merino with mulberry silk. It is smooth, soft and shiny with great drape making it ideal for garments, shawls and accesories. There is a great mix of semi-solid colourways as well as a number of variegated colourways so there will be plenty to choose from. They are available in batches of five but if you need more than five of a particular colourway we also have our Dyed to Order Sweater Quantity listings for many of our yarn bases.

We also have a festive sparkly yarn update coming very soon so keep an eye out for news of that!

Sometimes, the holidays sneak up on you. Other times, there’s so many choices, you just can’t decide what to get.

To eliminate some of the overwhelm, I’ve put together a Gift Guide highlighting naturally dyed, non-Superwash yarns that will help simplify your holiday shopping.

The Gift Guide highlights a few items to make your holiday fiber shopping easier and less stressful. Save yourself time and eliminate indecision by narrowing down your options and getting right to the good stuff! Then you can just grin happily when the receiver exclaims, “I love the colors, they’re so pretty,” or “Naturally dyed? So cool!”

Yarny inspirations for the holiday season include one- to two-skein projects, a shawl, a few sweater suggestions and nifty accessories. If you still can’t quite make up your mind, there’s always a can’t-go-wrong gift card! Items include Lunenburg, Missoni Accomplished and Forestland sweater yarn set; A.D. Cowl sets, handmade wool notion bags plus more.

Find the Gift Guide online at Flora Adora Fibers! Please feel free to contact me for questions, color help, etc.

Have you ever stopped to really add up all the time it takes you to bring a project from idea to finished object? It’s a lot, even for small projects. I want every moment of that time to be joyous, right from the moment you pick up your project. Your project bag sits beside you as you work, it hangs on your arm or doorknob or sits on your desk… wouldn’t it be nice if every time you saw it you thought to yourself, “Ooh! That is so pretty!” That’s what WoolNeedleThread bags do. They’re functional, full of pockets and a stitch marker holder, with a water-resistant waxed canvas base and a closure to keep your precious projects protected. But they’re also beautiful, and each one is one of a kind, just like your projects. They’re a perfect gift for the makers in your life, including the most knit-worthy of all: YOU! There are lots of styles and sizes ready to ship today. Even better: small items like stitch marker sets are discounted with a larger order (you’ll find all the details in the product listing). Please visit my website to see what’s available — this very small, handmade business appreciates your support!
