Jess and Meg of Critical Hit Dyes, a recently-opened indie dyed yarn shop, are debuting their Dragons Collection this month, their first major collection. Inspired by gem and metallic dragons and lore from Fitzban’s Treasury of Dragons, the line is composed of 12 colors in solid, variegated, and speckled shades. All colors are available on full size skeins on a range of bases, as well as several limited edition mini-skein packs. The Dragons Collection is available through August 31st.

There is nothing in the whole world like a skein of delightfully thick yarn to make you want to dive right in! Bulkier yarns beg you to pick them up, smoosh them, snorgle them and squish them tight. And when you cast on, they always work up so fast!

And the SpaceMonster Mega Yarn Club is all about going Big. The yarns are thick and squishy, the exclusive colours are downright galactic and even the gifts are mega awesome. The club is opening to new members next week and, if you get on the mailing list now, you’ll get early access to grab your spot!

As a member of the SpaceMonsters Mega Club, you receive:

• A fantastic parcel delivered to your door every other month, containing a beautiful skein of SpaceCadet yarn in worsted or bulky weight, hand dyed in an exclusive colourway created to bring out the best in thicker yarns
• The SpaceCadet’s Log exploring the inspiration for each colourway
• A fantastic SpaceMonsters gift tucked into every third parcel. We’re known for the great gifts we include in our club parcels — and for this club, we’re seriously upping the fab. You’re going love it!

In this club, you can also buy extra skeins! For a whole month after you receive your parcel, you’ll have an exclusive opportunity to order more skeins custom dyed in the latest club colourway. You’ll receive an email with all the details about a week after your parcel goes out — and then all you have to do is pick your project!

Plus Get Coordinating Colourways!

Colours this gorgeous deserve companions, don’t you think? So each month, you have the opportunity to get additional colourways that we design to coordinate beautifully with the first, so you can create an even more amazing project.

See you in the upcoming SpaceMonsters season!

All images shown here are of past colourways and are for illustrative purposes only. Yarns, colouways and gifts for new subscriptions will be different (but still awesome!).

We just returned from a quick road trip to coastal Maine for a little antiquing, lobster roll-ing and fun in the sun. Now it’s full steam ahead dyeing for the fall shows, yarn crawls and a few special projects. Before I get too far, I really need to free up some space on the yarn shelves so I’ve put nearly 100 different listings on sale. Items range from my lace bases to Sparkle Sock, Deep Sock, Harbour fingering, DK and a few sock-weight fade sets. All sale items are 20% off — no coupon code required, discount taken at checkout. Hope you find something you like!

As Christmas in July is drawing to a close, we have the proverbial icing on the cake or uhh… in this case, Christmas Tree! The 2022 Christmas in July Mini Set is a beauty! Colorful mini skeins bring joy and delight to any Christmas project you decide to take on. This set is not due to be re-released, so be sure to snag a few so you have plenty to stock your stash!

We’ve restocked some of our colorways that are perfect for Christmas stitching. Check out Holly Jolly, Sour Puss, and Bottle Green. Need help finding the perfect combo? Just reach out and we’ll be happy to help.

The folks at CocoKnits seem to know just what we need to make our stitching both efficient and joyful and they’ve just released their newest product! The new CocoKnits Kraft Bins are made from the same wonderful, washable paper fabric as the Kraft Caddie, Maker’s Board, and other CocoKnits products. The new bins arrive flat but expand and can stand on their own. They nest as well, making them incredibly space saving. Offered in three sizes, you will likely find you need them all!

Christmas in July is the last opportunity to get in on the Twelve Days of Christmas and Eight Nights of Hanukkah calendars. These fun open-a-box-a-day calendars are filled with yarn and extra goodies. Additionally, each day of the calendars, we will host a LIVE! opening over on our YouTube channel. There, we can find a few moments together in the midst of the holidays and enjoy seeing the surprises! We sure hope you will get in on this fun, annual event! This weekend is the last opportunity to order!

Be sure to tune in every Saturday morning to our podcast over on YouTube and join our Yarny Ewes Facebook group.

We’re celebrating Christmas in July with three new mini-skein sets in holiday-inspired colors. And every purchase over $100 automatically comes with an extra yarn boost — a 25g mini skein of our Squishy Sock yarn. We try hard to plan out holiday colorways that work for other parts of the year too, so you don’t spend hours crafting something and then put it in a box for 11 months.

Our yarn elves have been busy this summer and we’re ahead of Advent schedule, so along with our holiday colors, and some other surprises, we’re opening 24 more Advent spots. We may have a few extras around the time we ship (because I’m always paranoid I’ll miscount and need more) but this will be our final preorder for Advents. It’s such a fun way to treat yourself or someone you love to a yarn fueled serotonin boost during a busy and sometimes difficult time of year.

This update goes live Friday morning at 10 a.m. Eastern.

Our Tempo 4ply update is live on the website! We have 100g skeins and BRAND NEW Tempo 4ply mini skeins plus yarn packs for some combinations. One image shows Tempo 4ply in Wren’s Egg, Chestnut, Twig and Sand. Another image shows Tempo 4ply mini skeins in Whispering Grass, Cottage Original, Bark, Dark Oak and Black Magic Rose. Other colour combination suggestions can be found in the update flickr album including pairings of full skeins and mini skeins which would be perfect for use as socks with contrasting toes, heels and cuffs. One of the images shows a skein of Tempo 4ply in Diantus and a Tempo 4ply mini skein in Black Magic Rose. Tempo 4ply is our *proper* sock yarn. It’s Superwash Merino and nylon with 400m/100g (the minis are 20g) and it’s designed to be really tough and hardwearing. I find it soft enough for next-to-skin wear too and I am actually wearing a jumper (Boxy by Joji) made in it as we speak. I made it years ago and still looks new! As well as shawls, I’ve also got lots of socks made in this yarn – they have been seriously well used and are still going strong, so I do see a lot of value in this yarn even though it’s not quite as soft as the extrafine Merino bases. It is also our cheapest hand-dyed yarn as the Merino fibres used are less fine (more coarse) than is used in our other Merino yarns. This adds to the durability of this yarn and keeps the price lower.

Other recently added yarns have been in support of pattern releases. Exhale by Rachel Illsley of Unwind Knitwear is a beautiful sweater with an intricate colourwork yoke in a contrast colour. The pattern is written in nine sizes from XS to 5XL with the largest size using five skeins of the main colour with one skein of the contrast colour. It uses Titus 4ply in Charcoal and Bark (this combination is shown in one of the images) but would be stunning in many other colour combinations. Alternatively you could also use Milburn 4ply for this design which would give a wider range of colour combinations. Milburn and Titus can also be used together if you wish to do so! I’m planning to make one using Milburn in Black Tulip for the main colour — I just haven’t decided on the contrast colour yet. The pattern is available on Rachel’s Payhip. We are offering a discount on yarn for this design that is applicable to purchases of Titus 4ply and Milburn 4ply. Use code EXHALE10ECY at checkout for a 10% discount to the price of your yarn. This code will be valid until the end of Friday 5th August (UK time) and cannot be used in conjunction with any other discount codes.

We also have a batch of Brimham 4ply in Rose Campion (shown in one of the images) on the website for Liz Corke’s latest pattern, Treabh (pronounced “tro”) socks. Meaning plough in Scottish Gaelic, this is a simple but fun sock pattern featuring garter columns running up both sides of the sock, giving beautiful texture while still being a simple and quick knit. A pre-order batch is currently being dyed but if this sells out a new pre-order can be set up.

We have also recently restocked Titus Fingering. This is the same blend of superwash extrafine merino with mulberry silk as is found in our other Titus yarns but in a fingering weight singles yarn. It strikes us as primarily a garment and shawl yarn, but it also works really well at a much tighter gauge for things like fingerless mitts, hats, and cowls. The only thing I really wouldn’t recommend it for is socks. This yarn is fairly fine as fingering weight yarns go, due to it being lustrous and singles-spun. It will substitute in place of most fingering/4ply weight yarns but please be aware that you might think it looks a bit thin compared to more traditional 4ply yarns. There is a great selection of colours available as well as yarn packs in several colour combinations. The shown combination is Titus Fingering in Tide, Echinops, Ivy and Driftwood. There has also been a small restock of Titus 4ply which is our original Merino/silk yarn so we have lots of beautiful yarns to choose from!

Happy Shopping!

New in the shop this week for Christmas in July is Reindeer Droppings! Hmmmm… I can hear you: Reindeer Droppings? Well, yes! I mean, you don’t think those magical, mystical creatures that lead Santa’s sleigh are without their, ahem, bodily functions, do you? But we imagine the bits that they leave behind are magical and mystical as well as, well… colorful and sparkly!

This super fun colorway is splattered and speckled with all the Christmas colors we know and love with some unexpected shades tossed in for whimsy. We’re also bringing it to you on O Henry and Dickens, our wildly popular sparkle bases. The silver shiny bits remind us of tinsel on the tree and they certainly add a festive flair to any project.

Reindeer Droppings is also available to you in our expanded Sock Sets, and with a twist! Choose from Lite or Dark; or maybe don’t choose at all and snag both sets for some variation in your sock knitting.

Because we know you love coordinating colorways, Games Reindeer Play and Nose So Bright are also new in the shop this week! They bring out the reds and greens in Reindeer Droppings and are the perfect companions. Snag them all for great Christmas gift stitching!

The new Kraft Bins from CocoKnits are now stocked in the shop! These brand new bins are made of the same great washable paper we’ve come to know and love from CocoKnits. We’re so excited about them.

An Epic Project Created from the Simplest of Building Blocks… and for a limited time you can get the Striad Wrap pattern at 50% off!

The Striad Wrap was conceived one cosy day as I sat in my knitting chair drinking a steaming cup of tea and gazing absentmindedly at a new lampshade that cleverly incorporated strips of joined-up triangles to form a globe shape. As my eyes followed the curve of those triangles, I found myself itching to pick up my needles and use the architecture of knitting to mimic their shapes. And so the Striad Wrap was born, an intriguing series of short row triangles, knit individually in strips and joined together without any seaming up, that combine to beautifully show off the amazing colours of handdyed yarn.

Designed for SpaceCadet Mini-Skeins, this stunning wrap is my favourite kind of project: created from layer upon layer of the smallest of building blocks — each one so quick on its own but all of them together combining into an absolutely spectacular result. Perfect if you love playing with colour blocking but hate intarsia and seaming (there’s no intarsia and no sewing up at all in the whole project!).
