Wolfsbane – Aconitum Napellus
Preorders go live Saturday, August 6, 10a
Nectar: 60% SW Merino | 20% Yak | 20% Silk | 100G | 400Yds

Wolfsbane is another extremely well-known poison laced throughout history from Greek mythology to Anglo-Saxon monasteries. It is also known as Monkshood as its lilac purple flowers resemble the cowls of English monks.

This plant can be found wild in the Mediterranean Basin with the scientific name coming from the hills of Aconitus where it is said Hercules dragged Cerberus from the underworld and battled the three headed dog, his drips of saliva falling and bringing forth this plant to the earth. The Queen of Poisons is deadly from flower to root, causing death within two to six hours of ingestion. First it will feel like bugs are crawling all over, then your mouth and face will start to go numb. Soon you will feel tired and the paralysis will set in leading you to asphyxiation.

Wolfsbane is linked to death, rebirth and transformation is all forms of sorcery including, not surprisingly, to Werewolves. It can either be used to dispose of marauding wolves or if you touch the plant during the full moon it could induce lycanthropy.

We couldn’t wait to get to Season 4 of Virgin River and so many of our friends are loving it! Due to popular demand, we’ve introduced our NEW Virgin River Mystery Box. This one-time box will feature a mystery yarn colorway based on the series in your choice of base and number of hanks, along with other notions and goodies based on the series.

While we’re all waiting to see if Preacher will fall for another woman and whether Mel’s baby belongs to Jack or her deceased husband, we can be stitching away with gorgeous yarn and themed goodies. Spaces are limited, so don’t miss it! The box is scheduled to ship out 4-6 weeks after ordering.

While you’re browsing the site this week, be sure to check out the few remaining colorways from our Christmas in July event along with super fun, beginner-friendly Christmas Craft Kits. Be sure to join the Yarny Ewes Facebook group for loads of fun and events and check out our weekly podcast on YouTube.

I know that the “right” way to run an indie dye company like SpaceCadet is to create repeatable colourways and dye them over an over. And we have a lot of really beautiful repeatable colourways.

But if I’m honest, the thing that gets us really excited is a lot more playful than that! What we love most is layering colour on colour to create wonderfully complex one-of-a-kind skeins.

And when the heat and humidity are hitting their highs, all we want is deep, rich, saturated colour on cool, cool linen and silk. So that’s what we’ve dyed, in our Summer 2022 Thebe One-of-a-Kinds, a collection of yarns that are utterly breathtaking.

Each skein is completely one of a kind and cannot be repeated, and it’s a rare treat to see these in the shop. They are first come, first serve, and once they’re gone, they are gone. An important note: the yarn in your cart is actually yours only once you’ve completed check out, so you’ll need to be fast.

Yarn details

In Minnesota, August means one thing — the State Fair! It’s a big deal.

Millions of people come to the fair over 10 days. Hot days and warm nights are on order, just before fall comes and we start to smell snow in the air.

For August, I wanted to do something that paid homage to such a huge event. So, I’m doing beer. Simple, easy and tastes oh-so-good on a hot day.

August’s Drink of the Month yarn is on sale NOW! Snag your skeins ASAP! All orders will ship out around the 15th of the month.

“to show the way I feel
(With you I might try) my secrets to reveal
For you are a magnet and I am steel” — Walter Egan, 1977

Yarn has a wonderfully magnetic pull on us Fiberistas, and we wouldn’t have it ANY. OTHER. WAY. Until now, all of my stitch markers have been made of colored copper wire, and the thing about copper wire is that it’s not ferrous — that is, magnetic. But sometimes, you really just want a set of stitch markers that you can casually toss onto a magnet as you’re removing them from a project, or you want a stitch marker that sticks to a magnet when trying to pick them up out of shag carpet (y’all have shag carpet, right??), or you may just want to keep a tin of stitch markers on your fridge. You never know.

These sets of 30 stitch markers are made from SQUARE iron rings that have been powder coated in an array of colors. The powder coating keeps the metal from rusting, and let’s face it, make the markers look like a basket fulla Peeps. Each set comes in its own tin, which not only has a magnet on the inside, but also has a magnet on the outside, so you can attach your tin to all of your kitchen appliances or even the hood or your car, should you feel so … inspired to do so.

The LARGE size fits needles up to size US13 / 9mm.
The SMALL size fits needles up to size US8 / 5mm.

And also there’s a MIXED SIZES version! You get 15 each of the size US13 / 9mm and 15 of the size US8 / 5mm!

Nickel free.

Today I have for you not one, but two new yarns on my website.

Both are 100% wool and undyed to showcase the variety and beauty of different wool breeds.

The off-white/ivory yarn you can see in the pictures is Undyed Romney. It is about DK weight with 156m (170 yards) on 120g (4.2oz).

The light grey yarn is Casper, named after the sheep who donated the wool. These skeins are also 120g (4.2oz), but come in two different yarn weights (and yardage). And the special thing about this yarn: It can earn you an official Shave ‘Em to Save ‘Em sticker!

As always, I purchased the raw fleeces and then processed and spun them myself. So lots of my love and passion for fiber crafts went into these skeins!

And if you want to be among the first to get notified about new updates AND receive exclusive discounts (including free shipping), consider becoming a fiber pack member by subscribing to my (free) monthly newsletter here.
