After leaving the world of fast fashion, I was determine to start a business that would be committed to sustainability. While becoming an indie dyer was not the immediate solution that came to mind, it was something I soon discovered gave me the outlet of creativity I craved so much that was lost after I stopped working in fashion.

I had always been a knitter, long before I started working in the world of fashion and always had trouble finding yarn in the exact shade I was hoping for, or patterns I was dying to knit. Having always been a product designer, the only natural solution was to just make it. I’ve always enjoyed the process of creating my own unique creations, so I almost exquisitely never knitted with any patterns but my own.

Finally, in the summer of 2019, I took a leap of faith and decided that I would start The Wandering Flock, a knitwear design studio and hand-dyed yarn line. At the same time, I also took a chance and submitted a couple of sweater designs to Pom Pom Quarterly. I never expected to hear back, but miraculously they choose one of my designs for their Winter 2019 issue, and gave me an opportunity to not only showcase my design, but my yarn as well.

While The Wandering Flock has only been around for three months, it has been an incredible journey, from appearing in Pom Pom to working with Indie Untangled and meeting knitters who have FOs knitted in my yarn!

Drawing from my experience in fashion, I approach dyeing with a lot of intention, and focus on the final product your creations. While a skein of yarn is where my process ends, I think about what you will make with it. My hope is to create a line of yarn and classic, yet contemporary, knitwear patterns that will fit into your everyday wardrobe.

I’m excited to announce that I will be presenting my line of yarn and patterns at the upcoming Vogue Knitting Live Marketplace in New York City (Booth 1101-1103). There you’ll get to experience my full line of yarn and see the sweater I designed for Pom Pom.

Our designer is Dawn Henderson who goes by @Dawn.Landix on Ravelry and Instagram, and creates truly amazing, textural knitting designs. She’s working hard right now to create a special pattern just for this club, meant to be used with Silbia’s special colorway. She’s been featured in Taproot Magazine, Fancy Tiger Crafts, and more, and we’re so thrilled to have her join us for Session 1 of our DyeSigner Alliance.

Thank you so much for your support this year, and your patience while the new site was being set up. I truly appreciate every one of you!

As this year draws to a close and a new year is about to begin, I wanted to celebrate this change with dragonflies! They are back in beautiful new colors, and are joined by a new floral design. Each Czech glass bead features one of these graceful creatures etched on an orb of crystalline color, appearing to float or fly just above the glow.

Adorn your historical knits in amber, or spread your wings and flutter through a clear blue sky. For a more dramatic look, soar into the sunset or fly across a swirling, stormy sea!

How will you take flight in the new year?

We have a very special update planned for you on Tuesday 24th December at 10 a.m. UK time. The yarns included are Titus 4ply, our Merino and silk blend, Eldwick Lace, mohair and silk and a small top up of Hayton DK, Merino, Cashmere and nylon. This may seem like a randomly thrown together selection but it is to support a new pattern release which I can’t share just yet, but rest assured it is bound to be popular! There are two options for yarn for this design, either using the Hayton DK on its own OR holding the Titus 4ply double with Eldwick Lace. With that in mind we have come up with a large number of combinations of the Titus 4ply and Eldwick Lace to give you some ideas. Check out our flickr to find the album of the combinations!

On Monday just gone we had a small update of Nateby 4ply and Nateby 4ply mini skeins, some in festive colourways. If you worried that you missed out, don’t worry we still have a great selection left available on the website. Plus we have restocked the Woodbine sweater yarn packs so if you wanted to give that beautiful jumper a go, check out the website.

I should also mention that although we will be accepting orders through the website, we will close on Friday 20th December and not be back until Monday 6th January. We will process orders and start replying to emails following our return in January.

Seasons Greetings to all and we wish you a very Happy New Year! Here’s to a joyful 2020 xxx

I am sure Mr. Rogers believes in second chances, and so do we! We are ending the year with one of our “most requested” fabrics of 2019. We all clearly need a little more of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood in our daily lives.

This loving tribute is not a preorder. It is live Friday at 9 a.m. Pacific Time and ready to ship! We will be shipping the orders Friday and Monday before Christmas!

Our new yarn club, BY THE SEA, was conceived to create a special treat for knitters and makers alike to celebrate our Italian yarns and the talented handwork of some Italian artisans we fell in love with, to compose a bundle of exclusive accessories, curated for this occasion, so that each one is unique and unrepeatable.

The theme refers to a song that we happened to love, By The Sea by Morcheeba: a gentle rhythm that takes you to a perfect moment walking on a pier, staring at the quiet life occurring around.

We thought to celebrate these feelings of freedom and wilderness, believing that perhaps life’d be easier somehow if we all let go that way; the sea simply evokes this for us, with its endless movement, sometimes calm and soothing, some other rough and scary, but always immense to watch and breathe.

We’ll be dyeing inspired by this environment, and the colorway will be exclusive for the club, so try to imagine all the little treasures that you may find on the beach after a storm… try to imagine that peculiar salty smell in the air… try to feel your feet creating crimpy footprints strolling up and down the shore…

We searched for artisans that could exalt these ideas in their artwork, keeping in mind that our aim is to insert accessories that could be awesome, of course, but also handy of course.

Please make note of a few useful information about the CLUB:
– Subscriptions will be listed in our Webshop from DECEMBER 20, 17.00 CEST (that’s 10 a.m. Eastern)
– Subscriptions will be open until JANUARY 20, unless they are sold out before; shipping will be scheduled in early February.
– We decided to list only a limited quantity of bundles, because they are handcrafted especially for this event and all unique.
– Each club box will include 200g of our new woollen yarn, a blend of Italian Wool and Alpaca in their natural grey hues, hand dyed exclusively for the club, and two different accessories, curated by our lovely partners Marianna of @isewsoidontkillpeople and Alice & Eleonora of @last_one_stones

The theme for this quarter is “Souvenir de Paris.”

We’ll take a trip to the iconic city of Paris. Together we’ll enjoy the beautiful views, the classic neighborhoods and arrondissements, the art and culture, fashion and gastronomy and a bit of history.

Sidewalk cafes, a stroll along the Seine, sketching at the Louvre, a tour of the fashion houses, belle epoque architecture, boulangeries, the flower markets, grand hotels — these are some of my inspirations for this quarter.

As always, you’ll get a carefully curated box each month that includes a unique colorway based on the theme as well as several goodies. These might include things like:
-stitch markers or progress markers
-chocolate or candy, tea or coffee samples
-notecards, gift tags, bookmarks
-ornaments, recipes, small kits
or who knows what else!

Club packages are mailed out on the 10th of each month (or as close to it as possible) for the length of your membership. The shipping costs are included in the price.
