Yarn Shows, New Yarn and Pattern News

The last week has been a whirlwind of activity, with unpacking from Unravel, getting new yarn batches onto the website and also preparing for our next show which is this weekend. East Anglia Yarn Festival is taking place on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th March at the Norfolk Showground Arena. For more information or to get tickets check out their website. We will be closed on Friday 8th March and so orders placed won’t be shipped until Tuesday 12th March. Laura is also not working on Friday and so email responses will be delayed until Monday.

After EAYF we will have new batches of Brimham 4ply, Bowland Aran and Keld Fingering to add to the website as soon as we are able to get it photographed so keep an eye out for these. The next yarn show confirmed in our schedule at this point is Buxton Wool Gathering on 18th and 19th May.

The Cloud Cowl is a versatile pattern that can easily be adapted in many ways as shown with the fluffy versions and the Yarnling™ version. We have reissued the pattern, adding a single-colour 4ply version and three options for different sizes of chunky cowls. We have rearranged the pattern so each version is written out in full on separate pages to avoid confusion. The pattern is available as a FREE download on our website, on Payhip and also available on Ravelry.

New to the shop is our Dark & Dusky Trio, a celebration of color on your choice of squishy DK Homer or a special fingering base with a subtle bronze Stellina. The three beautiful colorways are Teal the Cows Come Home, Copper, and Chocolate Raspberry Ganache. Check them out and while you’re there, sign up for our newsletter (at the very bottom of our homepage) and see some gorgeous patterns we’ve picked for these.

New to the shop is the long-awaited bulky base called Atwood. In 100% Superwash Merino, Atwood comes in some of our most favorite colors, Muir, Copper and Spindleprick Red. Great for superfast sweaters and pairs well with Bronte, our laceweight alpaca/silk base.

There’s an update of our Alcott/Hawthorne Mini hanks include delightfully springy colors Peony Patch and Tickle My Fancy.

Everyone’s favorite neutrals, please check out Fingerlings and Potato Peel Pie, deemed most likely to go with everything.

We’ve also got a restock of lovely spring shades in Vintage, Ecru, Silver Linings, and Bottle Green, on a variety of bases.

A group of dragons is called a thunder, due to the fact that all their wings beating makes a sound like rolling thunder.

Every month join us for this journey through lore, literature and film as we explore Twelve Dragons — stories of these magnificent creatures that are powerful, cunning, trusting and that love to, as we also do, hoard treasure.  In 2024 we will explore different dragons from all over the world, from their lore, stories and colors. Twelve new exclusive colors on Lucent as well as a collection of dragon-themed treasures, notions and collectables are entering the den every other month.

For our first dragon, we must leave our warm hobbit hole and venture deep into the mountains.

A fire drake from the Third Age and the “Last Great Dragon” of Middle Earth. For 171 hoarded his treasures in the once great Dwarf home under the Lonely Mountain.

The Socksy Ewe is Open for You!

The Socksy Ewe is our super popular sock yarn club and its now open for new members. Each month, you get a super sock set in exclusive club colors on your choice of base. You can pick either Twain, our fingering/sock base with a coordinating Alcott mini, or Plato, our DK sock base with a Hawthorne mini. Both these beautiful bases are 75% Superwash Merino/25% nylon. This year, we’re bringing The Socksy Ewe in at a lower price point and focusing on the yarn. You’re going to love it!

We’ve got some gorgeous grays in the shop: Charcoal, Hurricane Season and Slate on a variety of bases, including our luxurious Woolf–a blend of grey alpaca, silk and cashmere. These rainy day shades aren’t getting us down as they are the sophisticated neutrals we need right now. Softer than black, classier than blue and they play well with a pop of color, check them out here.

Speaking of a Pop! of color, we’ve got some gorgeous shades on our Alcott and Hawthorne minis. Cat’s Meow, Peony and Burnished are beautiful on their own or as a colorful accent to sock toes, heels, cuffs or to add some drama to a neutral.
