Who Loves Mini-skeins? Well, then you are in for a treat!

Who needs diamonds and rubies in tiaras and necklaces? We have our own version in our knitting! What do you mean you can’t knit jewels? Sure you can. Real crown jewels stay in a safe and are rarely enjoyed, but our Crown Wools do not. You will know your own shawl version inspired by the crown jewels and wear it like you own Buckingham Palace! And it’ll be SO MUCH BETTER than a bunch of diamond tiaras.

Designed to be a STATEMENT PIECE, go as crazy or as tame with your colors as you like. I plan to wear mine like a giant necklace wrapped around a couple of times with black or neutral colors on the rest of me… and unlike the crown jewels, the CROWN WOOLS can be worn everywhere, from subway to airplane, to wine store and Rubik’s Cube competitions.

Remember that jewels come in every color of the rainbow, so pink diamonds, orange rubies, etc. are encouraged. And if you think you just need a giant sapphire or all the shades of taupe and brown you can find, power to you!

Details

1. The MKAL begins July 19. There are two clues per week over six weeks. The shape is a parallelogram, or asymmetric rectangle, similar in shape to Goldfish Memory. The design is done in 12 skeins of Miss Babs Toes and kits will be available in several colors from Miss Babs as well as other dyers.

2. Requires 12 different fingering weight mini skeins, 133 yards each; however, if you are stash diving or want to use smaller mini skeins, you can make up for it by just using more of them. As long as you like the colors in the order you place them, you will be just fine. Just continue to follow the clues and change yarns as needed.

3. Gradients, fades, or just colors that you like together, in order from 1-12, are all good choices. There will be very little mixing together of colors so don’t worry about that.

Read more about the colors here.

Signups will begin June 14, one month before the beginning of the MKAL – and feel free to post photos and ask color opinions in the Casapinka group.

It’s time for the next yarn club from Round Table Yarns. Well, almost time. Before we begin, I’d like to invite you on a little pre-club adventure.

What Is a Pre-Club?
The story for the yarn club is based upon the tale of the Knight of the Lion. But before that knight’s story gets told, another knight, Sir Calogrenant, shares his own tale with those at Arthur’s court — a tale which is the catalyst for Yvain’s adventure into becoming the Knight of the Lion.

I’ve taken Sir Calogrenant’s story of his misadventure and created a special colorway for it. Because this part of the story comes before the main adventure, instead of having this color be part of the full club, I’m creating a special offer for it. You can order this color whether or not you plan to join the full club. It’s a taste of what a club shipment might be like without having to fully commit to the club.

Why Join the Pre-Club?
1. You love the color! (It’s not a surprise like the regular club will be.)
2. You love the base! (Also not a surprise.)
3. You can get a taste of what it is like to be part of the yarn club.
4. But you don’t have to commit to the full club if you join the pre-club.
5. If you do want to join the full club, you’ll get first access before it opens to everyone else.
6. You’ll find out why Calogrenant is so reluctant to tell his story to the other knights.
7. You won’t have to wait until the end of September for this color to be released outside the pre-club.

I have a feeling you may be Kindred Spirits, so I’d like to share with you a collection of colorways inspired by Anne and the places and people of Avonlea. They’re available for a limited time in the shop on our Squishy (SW Merino/nylon) sock base and our Sublime Worsted (100% SW Merino single-ply) base. Together all six on fingering weight would create an incredible Goldfish Memory Shawl by Casapinka, and on worsted they’d make a gorgeous striped sweater. We’ll also have mini-skein sets on our Squishy sock base, perfect for cheerful striped socks or pops of color in heels and toes or giant scrappy blankets.

The colorways are (from left to right in the first image):
Island Welcome
Amethyst Confessions
Puffed Sleeves
October Mist
Carrots!
Gilbert Blythe

I hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoyed putting them together!

I am so excited to announce my new website is up and running!! My husband has worked quite hard on this for me for a couple months now and I’m so excited to finally share it with you!! The best part… you can now buy my yarn on my website and it’s fully stocked!! I will no longer be using Etsy. It’s all so exciting and nerve-wracking at the same time. Please take a look and let me know what you think!!

Our latest shop update is just for you color lovers out there! We have five colorways of Fully Spun Sock Sport, including two new colorways. These skeins are huge at 150g and 400 yds, just enough for a shawl!

We also have launched a new yarn weight with Fully Spun Original DK. We’ve taken a few of our favorite colorways and translated them to a heavier weight yarn perfect for a hat, cowl, or your new favorite sweater! If you are local to the DMV area, come see us on Saturday from noon to 4:30 p.m. for Public Knitoxication at Fabbioli Vineyards. Check out our Instagram post and Facebook event for details!

To highlight our 10 new colorways, we’ve dyed them up on our new base: Sad Cat.

Sad Cat is a 75/25 Superwash Bluefaced Leicester/nylon blend. This wonderfully soft and versatile yarn is perfect for your next shawl or cardigan. You can even use it for socks, thanks to the nylon.

Our 10 new colorways are: Hogwash, Orchidelirium, Up River, Rustic Rust, Belly Button Lint, Pepperoncini, Tusk, Tempestuous, Gnome Home and Deja Vu Whale.

These colorways are repeatable. They can be dyed to order if you want more than is listed.

Fade, fade, fade! Fades are so in! There are so many fades going on and there seems to be at least two view points on picking colors — either you want a drastic contrast from one color to the next or you want it to blend seamlessly. When using a drastic contrast it creates a definite striping effect and when using a gradient colorway it creates a seamless melding of colors. I wanted to make a simple stockinette sweater for my grandson and decide where I would change the colors, and off I went. I used Whole Knit n’ Caboodle Superwash 100% Merino DK (Black and Blue, Karner Butterfly, Smoke Gray ) and just did a top down sweater to incorporate the fade into it.

A new addition to my shop is my stripe sock yarn in single stripes, three-row stripes and five-row stripes. Great weather to be knitting socks. This is my go-to-the-beach kind of project!! Check out my website for online-only items. More color options and more to come.

In May of 2017, I was on the big island of Hawaii. It was a beautiful trip where I was able to see the entire island on the Epic Island Tour. The photo is of the Ohia Lehua flowering tree that we learned so much about. I can’t help thinking of the people impacted by the volcano that was only a small puff of smoke last year. In July I will be featuring a small line of yarns inspired by some of the photos that I took. I will sell these only online and I will be donating 20% of the sales to the Hawaii Natural Disaster Relief Fund. I will add them my website as I create them and will provide an update in my next Indie Untangled post.
