No, I did not make a mistake naming the pattern! I came up with this playful word,”Totelly.” Not bad for a tote bag, right?
The bag is worked in rounds, in mosaic knitting. The size is adjustable. The mosaic pattern is charted and written out. The charts are also given in reversed colours for ease of use in case you decide to swap the light and dark colours in your bag.
Welcome to the 2023 Midyear Solstice Calendar preorder! Preorders close at the end of February or when sold out!
This solstice calendar is going to be a bit special. It is inspired by moths — the part of the family Lepidoptera who are shamelessly in love with lightbulbs, dance in the air at night, and who are exquisitely adorned in the most glorious tones, hues and patterns. This will be a Yarn Therapy palette with complex colourways creating a cohesive fade, featuring exclusive colourways nobody has seen before! There will be speckles, variegated and tonal skeins. And they’ll play beautifully together, both as a fade, or reordered to create contrast!
As always, everything will be lovingly hand dyed in my little solar-powered dye studio in small town Aotearoa New Zealand, before making its way to your doorstep.
It will comprise:
~20x 20g mini skeins that have been carefully and lovingly handdyed by Jo.
~1x 100g skein, also lovingly handdyed by Jo, that coordinates with the minis and makes the whole collection sing!
~A handmade linen project bag — strictly exclusive to this solstice calendar
~A couple of quality surprises scattered throughout
The images here are merely to give you an idea of some of my inspiration, and some examples of previous solstice calendars for an idea of what you might expect… you’ll have to order the calendar to see what’s included this year!! The full-sized skein will coordinate with the minis and be in the same base yarn.
Each skein will come individually wrapped and numbered so you can play along and open a mini skein each day until the full-sized skein to celebrate the midyear Solstice on the 21st… or you can open them all at once, or whenever and in whatever order you like — it’s your calendar and your business!!

Happy February yarn fans! We are really excited to finally be able to share Brimham Aran with you. This update has been in the works since last autumn which you will be able to see from some of the colours included. Various things got in the way of the update but we are so thrilled that you will be able to get your hands on it. As with our other Brimham yarns this is a blend of extrafine Merino with nylon and this time in an Aran weight (85% Merino/15% nylon). It has all the softness you would expect from the extrafine merino but with the added durability that comes from the nylon. As this is the first update of Brimham Aran we have mostly gone with our signature semi-solids but with a couple of variegated colourways including our newest — White Iris. You can find all Brimham Aran on the website now!
We have received our latest Milburn delivery so our out of stock colours have been restocked and the next batch has been requested. Older dyelots of some colours are reduced in price so that we can keep the stock as current as possible. This restock means many of our Milburn yarn packs are back in stock including our Milburn blanket packs which are available in both 4ply and DK weights. Blanket packs include one ball of each colour in the Milburn palette — that’s 20 balls!
Now that Royal Mail appears to be running more smoothly again for domestic shipments, we have reinstated First Class and Second Class shipping options on our website. You can still select Courier or Signed For services for extra piece of mind but cheaper options are now available again.
International shipping is sadly still a bit of a mess due to the backlog of parcels from Royal Mail strikes in December and the cyber attack in January. Here is a summary of the current situation:
– International orders placed and shipped before 23rd December should have been delivered. Contact us if they have not.
– International orders placed over the festive break are in the system and starting to be processed.
– EU orders placed since 12th January have been shipped and should be moving through the system.
– International orders (other than EU orders) shipped between 12th January and 31st January are being held by Royal Mail.
– International orders shipped after 31st January *should* be almost back to a normal service but will be slower than the service has been previously.
We still only have tracked international shipping on the website at this time but we do also have courier shipments available which will be much more reliable at this time. Thank you for your continued patience with us through this difficult period.

It’s Aiden here, from Undercover Otter, and I’ve got some exciting news to share with you. After some brainstorm sessions with the lovely people that produce our yarn bases, we found room for improvement on our (already pretty friggin’ amazing) Squirm Sock yarn base!
The result is an even softer, springier yarn than ever! Squirm Sock is spun exclusively for Undercover Otter and not available anywhere else. Squirm is a high twist, 4-ply, fingering-weight yarn. The contents are 80% Superwash Merino wool (21.5 microns) and 20% nylon. Each skein contains approximately 400 meters per 100 grams (437 yards per 3.5 oz). The high twist gives the yarn a velvety look and makes it feel next-to-skin soft.
Squirm Sock is perfect for making socks (duh), shawls, cowls and other garments that need a bit of extra cushion. It’s also great for knitting or crocheting toys or any other projects that you want to be extra soft and squishy! It is not only soft but also very durable, making it perfect for garments that you want to have in your life for a long time.
The first batch of this delicious yarn base is now available on our website.
We also offer undyed skeins, which can be used as a neutral cream color to add to your projects. Or, if you’ve got an adventurous streak; dye your own skeins! Squirm takes acid dye very well and saturates easily, making it a perfect yarn for (beginning) dyers to experiment with.

The last plant of the Wicked Seeds club is Hemlock, available on Nectar: 60% SW Merino 20% Silk 20% Yak 100G 400yds
Hemlock is a commonly misidentified plant, not to be confused with the Hemlock tree (harmless) or water hemlock (not so harmless) but also more common plants like carrots, Queen Anne’s Lace and wild Chervil leading to a tragic error. One of the key features to make sure what you are foraging is not Hemlock, the stalk of this plant has distinct purple/red markings up its green stalk. It was a popular old Germanic funerary herb, who believed it was a plant of great hatred and harbored resentment for other plants favored by people like rue that it won’t grow anywhere near it. But the use of this plant did not start there in ancient Greece it was the state poison of executions in Athens as well as the cause of death for historical figures such as Socrates who was found guilty in his trial after riots broke out in Athens and given a cup of Hemlock extract.
Digesting true Hemlock will cause tremors, dilated pupils, vomiting and muscle weakness to start but can also turn into kidney failure, muscle paralysis, Low blood pressure and a slow heartbeat.
We have just released a brand new base — Masham and Leicester! It’s available in Fingering and DK. It’s an all-British yarn: processed and spun in Yorkshire from British sheep and dyed by hand in our studio on the south coast of England.
The yarn takes dye a little differently: the BFL is a white wool and the Masham a brown wool. We overdye the heathered yarn, producing interesting new colours from our classic colourways. Available in 18 colours.
It has an interesting texture, soft and fuzzy. Fantastic for fair isle and colourwork. Non-Superwash — please wash your garments by hand.
