Fior di Felce means Fern Flower in Italian. I know that ferns don’t produce flowers, but there’s a popular legend about a magical fern flower that blooms only once a year at midnight. Whoever finds it will get supernatural powers, like infinite knowledge or invisibility.

Fiordifelce is a top-down triangular shawl covered in a filigree of leaves and flowers on a dark background, mixing colorwork and Japanese lace.

There is an introductory 25% discount using the code fiordifelce until Sunday 15 at midnight (Rome time).

I found the most amazing eco-friendly screen printer who prints it all the old fashioned way — by hand! It’s a one-person shop, so when you are buying you are supporting two women owned small businesses!!

This updated unisex essential fits like a well-loved favorite, featuring a crew neck, short sleeves and designed with superior combed and ring-spun cotton.

Step into the heartwarming world of Eagle Bend Alpaca Farm with the All Breeds Cowl – a mosaic knit cowl that draws inspiration from the idyllic landscape and the captivating creatures living in perfect synchrony in Burlington, Kentucky. This unique cowl design is a loving tribute to 40 show-quality alpacas and award-winning Cormo sheep that roam 52 acres of peak Bluegrass beauty, where rolling hills meet pastoral landscapes, and friendships flourish.

I designed this cowl as a skill-building pattern for the confident advanced beginner looking to expand their skills, or an interesting project for an intermediate knitter. The geometric sheep design is created with mosaic knitting — a way to create a colorwork pattern while holding only one yarn at a time. Working in stockinette stitch in the round, you’ll only need to knit & slip stitches.

The mosaic stitch pattern reflects the harmonious existence of the alpacas and sheep, their unique fibers intricately woven together, just like the bond they share at Eagle Bend Farm. The All Breeds Cowl is more than just an accessory; it’s a tangible connection to the heart and soul of a remarkable farm and its inhabitants. Wrap yourself in the embrace of the alpaca’s softness and the Cormo sheep’s woolly warmth. As you knit this cowl, cherish the harmony that nature so effortlessly weaves into our lives.

Knit your own All Breeds Cowl.

We have had a busy few weeks at ECY Shedquarters in the run-up to Yarndale this past weekend. It was lovely to meet so many yarnie friends new and old. I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello and to squish and buy from us. We took lots of yarn with us and we have finally managed to get all that was left afterwards photographed and on the website. We have added Brimham Bio Bingering, Brimham 4ply, Brimham DK, Pendle Aran, Bowland 4ply and Bowland DK. Plus a few individual batches of other yarns that are still being added!

Brimham Bio Fingering is our first yarn made with biodegradable nylon mixed with Superwash extrafine Merino. You can read more about this yarn including the biodegradable nylon in this blog post. This yarn is slightly finer than our other fingering weight yarns but can also be used in patterns for fingering-weight yarns as long as you can obtain the correct gauge.

Brimham 4ply and DK are Superwash extrafine Merino with standard nylon making it super soft but also with the durability from the nylon. It is ideal for garments and socks but also soft enough for shawls and accessories.

Bowland 4ply and DK are both 100% Superwash British Bluefaced Leicester yarn. BFL is a fabulous hard-wearing yarn which is very different to Merino. We have even written a blog post comparing the two fibres if you aren’t familiar with them. Read it here. This yarn is great for a really wide range of projects, including accessories and garments. Some may find it fine for socks, but being a pure fine wool, it may not be hardwearing enough for you, so please bear that in mind.

Pendle Aran is buttery soft Superwash extrafine Merino which is squishy and smooth whilst retaining a bouncy and hard wearing quality. It shows off stitch patterns and cable details well, and we love it for knitting as well as crochet. Aran-weight yarns are wonderful to work with as we move into the colder months and will be perfect for winter accessories. We have set the price of our Aran and chunky yarns lower than the finer weights making them more affordable for larger projects.

Apart from the blog posts we have already mentioned, we also have a page detailing all the yarn specific blog posts in one place. and you can find it HERE. Here you will find our Projects and Patterns pages which you can use for inspiration if you aren’t sure what to make with the yarns. We are working to add more of these blog posts all the time so do check the list out occasionally!

Before Yarndale we released a new free crochet pattern. Cloud Cowl by Victoria Magnus is a granny stripe cowl made with Lowther Lace. It has four size options: one, two or three skeins, using one skein of each colour. The fourth size is a Yarnling stripe version using 24 of our 4ply Yarnlings. The pattern is available to download for free on our website, on Payhip and on Ravelry.

Bewitching shades of all the gorgeous deep colors of the season. Bewitched is our colorway of the week and it’s a magical mix of scarlet, and fuchsia, amber and chocolate, persimmon and purple. Dazzling beyond the typical colors of the season, Bewitched will bring charm to any project you make with it. Paired with Berry Scary it’s a screamingly beautiful combination.

We also have a restock of our luxurious Woolf base in Out of Mist and Mallow. Time to treat yourself to the good stuff.

And speaking of the good stuff our Bronte base in Berry Scary and Mallow. Delightful. Bronte, our suri alpaca plus silk base, is making friends with lots and lots of our other yarns, adding a lovely halo plus a delicious softness to projects without adding weight. We’ve restocked Pretty in Pink, Berry, and Vintage, as well as Berry Scary and Mallow to coordinate with all the lovelies in the shop.
