World Wide Knit in Public Day at National Harbor, Maryland

Join us for a day of fiber fun as we celebrate World Wide Knit in Public Day, a fundraiser for Project Knitwell. This is free to the public and will include a marketplace and knitting and crochet instruction.

Bring a chair or a blanket, a friend and your current project to stitch in the Plaza at the National Harbor, Maryland. The event will feature a marketplace of local fiber businesses, opportunities to learn to knit/crochet, door prizes, and a silent auction to raise money for Project Knitwell.

We strongly encourage attendees to wear a mask and maintain proper social distancing while in the vendor booths and when in close proximity to others.

This event is free to the public but registration is required. Also, if you would like to volunteer, please check the volunteer box on the registration form. Register here.

Come join the Sense and Sensibility Knit & Read Along! We will be knitting a mystery shawl inspired by Jane Austen’s novel and reading through the book itself.

Yarn kits and pattern kits are now available in my shop. The sets include all one full skein of Pine Twist sock yarn (462 yards), one set of five Pine Twist minis (92 per mini), the pattern, a teacup stitch markers, discuss booklet, and tea. The pattern kit includes everything above but the yarn. The Knit and Read Along will start July 3rd!

Sign-up will remain open till June 12th.

Anyone is welcome to join!

Mermaid Parade

One of my first New York City summer experiences was the Coney Island Mermaid Parade and it was by far one of my favourite experiences in NYC. The Mermaid Parade is an annual parade held at Coney Island. It embodies the fun, creative energy of NYC that we don’t always see. A sea of people dressed as Mer-people in blues, greens, lots of neon and plenty of homemade costumes, all in the name of fun.

This fun, creative spirit is what inspired our limited release for the summer. Mermaid Parade, named after the parade itself, is a pastel sage speckled with pops of neon yellow and pink and deep green. It will be available on our Fingering Single and Mohair Silk bases.

Mermaid Parade will go live in The Wandering Flock Etsy shop on Friday, May 27 at 12 noon Eastern.

I’m excited to share with you my latest design: Floral Alchemy.

Floral Alchemy is a sweet cropped top, exploring colorwork and basic wrapped stitches which were inspired by some adorable fluffy flowers I found near the ocean.

The pullover is worked from the top down. It has balloon sleeves that are a bit romantic and feminine.

I love to pair it with dresses and skirts. If cropped sweaters aren’t your thing, it can be easily lengthened, if you like. I love to see how you choose to wear your knit pieces!

Each tribe represented in this collection (inspired by Horizon Forbidden West) consists of a variegated colorway as well as semisolid coordinates. For this initial release everything is available as DK weight 100% SW Merino (231 yards/100g). All skeins will be available individually so you can mix and match your favorites!

Dancing with Galaxies shawl

My latest release, Dancing with Galaxies, is a top-down half circle shawl with an intricate and fun mosaic border.

The body of the shawl has an half-pi construction, one of the easiest I know and probably one of the funniest to knit. When the inner semicircle is done, the big mosaic border is attached perpendicularly to the shawl body while knitting, without seaming.

The border of this shawl features bold spiral shapes over a dark background, reminiscent of faraway galaxies dancing in a remote space-time.
While the border design is quite complex and has very long repeats, the technique is very easy: mosaic knitting let you create motifs using only one color at a time!

The shawl is not complicated and very fun to make, and the final result is stunning while remaining easy to wear and to style.
