A marvellously moreish accessory set

I’m a big fan of what you might call deceptive knitting – cunning stitches that look intriguing, but are really simple, even mindless, in execution. Even more so when it involves playing with colour. So I was delighted to come up with this hat and mitts set, which definitely fits the bill; it looks super cool but knits up fast and effortlessly, and takes just two skeins of worsted weight yarn. I’ve been wearing them daily, too.

Mutzi looks like a typo for Mütze (German for hat) but it’s actually a Swiss dialect term for “kiss”. That fits the rows of kisses in the patterning, but I admit mostly I just liked the wordplay. In any case it’s published in both English and German, and available on Ravelry as well as Payhip.

I’m so excited to announce Forbidden Fiber Co’s next Treasure Trove box!

Book-ish is a celebration of all things reading. No matter your media preference (e-book or printed), favorite genre, there is something for everyone in this box!

The Knitting and Crochet Treasure Trove will include a full skein of our Fortitude DK yarn and three coordinating mini skeins, for a total of approximately 420 yards of yarn. The knitting pattern will be designed by me (Leann Ross), and the crochet pattern will be designed by Elisa of Strings and Cuddles. I’m excited to be working with Elisa for the first time!

The Cross Stitch Treasure Trove will include a fat 1/8 yard of fabric and at least six (6) skeins of our handdyed floss. The pattern will be a new FFC original.

Both boxes will contain lots of fun reading-themed goodies on top of all that. And, if you can’t choose, we have a Hybrid option available – all the yarn and cross stitch goodies, plus one set of all the extras! On top of all that, there is also the option to add on one of our hand-embellished cotton canvas project bags.

So. Many. Goodies!

I hope you’re as excited about this theme as I am! These boxes will ship on or about March 11th, so our open pre-order period will go through Friday, February 18th. As always, we will make a few extras so that if you’re unable to purchase before the cut-off, you still have a chance to get one. The options will be much more limited at this point, though.

I hope you’ll join us in celebrating one of my most favorite hobbies the best way I know how – through stitching!

Can you guess the album cover inspiration for our March 2022 monthly colorway based on the Music of Our Youth (‘70s)?

Every Monday we release clues on Instagram and Facebook. Each follower is allowed one guess per week. The winning guess receives that month’s colorway once it’s revealed. March’s monthly colorway will be revealed on March 1st. The first clue will be released Monday, February 7th.

January’s album inspiration was KC and the Sunshine Band. February’s inspiration was Queen’s A Night at the Opera. Attached are pictures of those colorways.

Two new yarn colorways at Fiberdog Fibers!

Happy February!

In this month’s update at Fiberdog Fibers (coming to you on Friday, February 4th 2022 at 12 a.m. Eastern) I am very pleased to introduce two new yarn colorways: Red Stars and Orange Stars. They are both made from the same Corriedale fleece that I washed, combed, spun and dyed myself. One of the pictures shows the various steps the wool went through in my hands.

Here are the details of the yarn:

– 270 – 290m (295 – 317 yards)
– 105g (3.7oz)
– Weight: Sport (17 WPI), category 2 (light)
– 100% wool (Corriedale)
– $35 per skein

In addition to these two exciting new colorways, I’ve also restocked some fiber for spinning: Purple Clouds is back! It is made from the same fleece as the yarn above, but has been carded, not combed and blended with a bit of rayon (bamboo).

Spring is in the Air!

Hi Everyone! It’s been a while since I’ve posted on Indie Untangled but wanted to give everyone an update of all the new things I’ve added to the shop at Charming Ewe!

2021 was such an exciting year for me as I launched Charming Ewe and I cannot thank you all enough for your support. It’s been such an honor to connect with so many wonderful people that not only love yarn, but create such beautiful things with yarn! I am constantly in awe of the beautiful finished objects I see people sharing whether it is with yarn from Charming Ewe or yarn from the so many talented indie dyers out there!

For 2022, I plan to add more mini sets, more sock sets and just have fun playing with color. I am in the process of rebuilding my website and will be adding new features such as restock requests and a “build your own” sock set feature. With the mild weather we’ve been having in Texas, I got a bit of a head start working on spring colors. I may have released them a little early but I couldn’t wait to share the spring colors I have been working on. I’m still working on releasing more new colors but here is just a sampling of the colors I’ve posted on my site that make me feel like Spring is in the Air!!!

In addition to the spring colors, I’ve created a Valentine Bundle that includes five mini skeins and one full-sized skein that is inspired by the Sweethearts conversation heart candies. The new conversation candies now have “love songs” on them so I have used that as inspiration in creating the Valentine Luv Song bundle!

New Peacock Colourways at My Mama Knits

Time to introduce the inspiration for my latest colour series. Meet Herman and Marguerite, the resident peafowl pair from At Birkhill House in the Scottish Borders.

Peacocks have enchanted me since childhood. Their indescribable ever-shifting colours are almost otherworldly. And yet they are noisy and territorial enough to be a somewhat common substitute for guard dogs. I have wanted to play with their colours in the dye pots for a long time, but always put the idea aside for other projects. I mean, loads of dyers do a peacock colourway. Does the world need another?

Then the stars seemed to conspire and I started volunteering at Birkhill, where Herman has provided me with a variety of fleeting faraway glimpses and up-close encounters that started with a single stray tail feather which I found on the road. So, suffice to say, the call of the dye pots grew stronger and I’m excited to finally share the results. I hope you like them. For the months of February and March, a portion of sales will be donated to Birkhill to help expand their fibre program, among other things.

Being involved at Birkhill has been a real blessing to both myself and my daughter. The healing energies of animals and crafts are so important and I think even more powerful when combined. I so want to help ensure their success, so others can also benefit from the magic space of positivity that Lara is trying to create. Check them out if you can. There are not just peacocks to love. Fibre enthusiast will appreciate their gorgeous alpacas and Castlemilk Moorit sheep!
