It’s almost time for the Softyarn Designs annual winter Mystery Knit-a-Long and this year will be more fun than ever! Lena designed the Fairy Correspondence Shawl pattern in my Fancy Sock base and there are FOUR different kit options available for you. There’s totally something for everyone. Which is your favorite?

Fairy Correspondence MKAL Kits will include the yarn needed for the shawl and a pattern download code, too, so you’ll have everything you need.

My kits will also include special postcards I had made JUST for this MKAL. Lena’s offering a special bonus called Correspondence Connections (it’s optional — you don’t have to do it, but it sure will be fun if you do!) and you can sign up to be matched with one to two people to connect with outside of the KAL chat threads and Instagram! We will be sending ACTUAL mail to each other, and you can use these postcards for this extra bonus if you’d like. Of course, you could just use them as regular postcards anytime you’d like, or toss one in with a gift you’re giving… whatever you want!

We hope you’ll join in on this MKAL! Lena always does a great job with the details and her Ravelry chat forum is always hopping. Preorders for the Fairy Correspondence Kits placed by Saturday 2/26 will ship in plenty of time for you to be ready by the MKAL Kickoff on March 21st. Orders placed after that will ship on a rolling basis, so don’t worry — I’ve got you covered. My kits include the pattern at a GREAT discount — if you buy the yarn, I give you the pattern at no extra cost! Check out the Fairy Correspondence MKAL kits in the shop today and learn more about how it works and get a better look at the kit options. I hope you’ll join the Mystery Knit-a-long with us. We’re going to have a total blast!

I was born before the “Nintendo generation” officially began. I had a Colecovision and could contentedly play Pitfall on the Atari for hours if left to my own devices. Translation: I’ve been a gamer for most of my life. In my 20s I fell in love with anime and yarn (at very different times), and in my 30s, I became a board game enthusiast. Now in my 40s, I decided to pursue my dream of becoming a dyer and merge my passions by drawing inspiration for colorways from the games and anime that I enjoy. Consider this the cliffs notes version of how Crafter Gamer Geek came into being.

At the time I am writing this, in the Crafter Gamer Geek shop, you’ll find variety of offerings. There are nine colorways across a mix of weights and wool types. You’ll find fingering-, DK- and Aran-weight yarns that are made from Merino, BFL, Polwarth and Highland wools. There are three more colorways that I designed specifically for my sock sets. These sets would also make amazing hats or shawls! For my fellow spinners, there are three colorways currently available on a Merino/nylon roving.

I have no delusions that I will turn crafters into gamers or turn gamers into crafters. I’d be pleased if I helped start a conversation, or simply piqued someone’s curiosity. I hope this journey allows me to meet others like me who have affinity for both yarn and fiber as well as gaming and/or anime. I hope that my creations resonate with all kinds of fiber enthusiasts, whether they share my other interests or not.

My name is David, the owner & dyer behind Crafter Gamer Geek. I hope you take the time to check out my shop and find me on Instagram (@craftergamergeek) to follow along on my adventure to see what I come up with next!

Silky Lavender is a crescent shaped shawl worked in a lovely DK-weight yarn. It is one of my easiest designs ever, but easy doesn’t mean boring! This shawl has enough interesting constructive and decorative details to make it fun to knit and delightful to wear. ????

The main feature in this shawl is the slipped cable pattern in three colors on the border and the fun picot bind-off. Lovely and much easier to work than it looks.

The shawl is available both on Ravelry and Payhip, and there is an introductory 15% discount using the code “silky15” until Sunday, February 27 at midnight (Rome time).

The Dyeworks has collaborated with designer Helaina of Chic and Regal Knits to bring you two shawl design kits. Blissed Out uses three skeins of Auto DK, and Picot de Gallo takes two skeins of Auto Worsted. These kits are fun, fast, easy, and insanely colorful! Kits include yarn, a hard copy of the pattern and a Ravelry download code. At least a dozen color combinations for each shawl await you!

Hello everyone!

Cashmere & Coconuts is thrilled to announce we have just released several new and exciting products!

After the incredible success of our Holiday Advent Set, based on the Great British Baking Show, we have put together our very first Summer Knitting Box! Just like our Advent set, our Summer Box comes with 24 20g mini skeins, one full size 100g skein, each based on our summer theme of geodes, crystals and agates, as well as 1-2 small themed gifts. Each skein is on our 75/25 Sock base, which is an incredibly soft and yet durable Merino/nylon base. You also have the option to upgrade your box to either our MCN Sock base, or if you really want to capture that sparkle found in so many geodes and crystals, our Sparkle Sock base! No matter which base you choose, we promise you won’t be disappointed!

We also have launched our brand new Monthly Fiber Box, which will be based on a different theme each month. Orders are accepted until the 10th of each month, or until all spots are filled. Space is very limited, so make sure to grab your Fiber Box while you can!

We are pleased to announce that we have launched two new shawl kits, with patterns by the incredibly talented Ambah O’Brian! Her Lilli Pilli shawl is a particular favorite of ours, and you can choose between a variety of color ways to customize your perfect shawl!

Last, but certainly not least, our widely popular Outlander Sock Box is restarting again! For those who love the beauty of Scotland, Jamie Fraser’s accent (and kilt! Ahem!) and love to watch as Claire gets herself into one scrap after another, this box is for you! Each month you’ll receive one full size 100g skein, two coordinating mini skeins, and several small goodies that any Outlander fan would love to have! (Skeins shown in photo are examples of previous Outlander boxes, however this is a Mystery Box). All Outlander skeins stay exclusive to our Outlander Sock Box for a minimum of six months and will not be released before then.

One more nugget of awesomeness for you all! Cashmere & Coconuts is offering an exclusive discount only for Indie Untanged members! Use discount code INDIEUNTANGLED14 to save 14% off your orders from now until Valentines Day!

More to come next week!

Pendle Aran will be back on the website today (Thursday 10th February)! It has been so long since our last update of this yarn as it’s been unavailable, and it is a long-term favourite. It has a bit of history: originally known as Langdale Superwash Aran (a long time ago now!), it was renamed to show that it was the same fibre as Pendle 4ply which has also been in our range for years. We decided to add Chunky and DK weights of this gorgeous yarn and so to show them as a family it made sense for them all to be known as Pendle. The colours included in the update can be seen in the update album over on flickr.

The update will be live on the website in an hour, at 5pm UK time. Pendle Aran is 100% Superwash Extrafine Merino which means it is super soft and snuggly. For project ideas check out our Pendle Aran Patterns and Projects blog post. Three patterns for this yarn are available on our website: Snowy Evening by Jaya of Apoorva Designs, Cardamom Rose by Thea Colman AKA Baby Cocktails and Gatekeeper Cowl by Estelle Hughes.

Jennifer Shiels Toland’s beautiful brioche Winter Frosting hat is a great way to experiment with colour and gain confidence in brioche knitting. It was made using Titus DK in Steel and Rambling Rose and Pennine Mist with Steel but have you considered substituting the yarn for Milburn DK (BFL/silk)? We were thinking about it as this would reduce the overall price of the project. The pattern is available on Jen’s website. Titus DK has also been recently updated so check out the available stock on the website.

Milburn 4ply has been restocked! I wont bore you with the details but things haven’t exactly run smoothly with this batch and so the packaging isn’t what we would normally expect – I’m still trying to find out for sure but the plastic bags are not the recyclable ones I’ve always had before (I’m absolutely gutted about this if I’m honest). Also you might notice the balls of yarn are wound much more loosely and so the yarn bands don’t stay in place. This is an absolute pain for me but I am hoping it won’t make any difference to you because you always pull the labels off and cast on straight away, right?! ???? Anyway, it’s not across the full range – it’s just eight of the colours and one batch per colour so they shouldn’t be like that for too long. We are working to make sure the next batch is back to normal and really hope it won’t be a problem for you.

It occurred to us (after we saw strong buying patterns in the January sale) that in general Aran yarns are purchased in larger quantities and this can make projects less accessible due to the price, especially with the rising cost of living in the UK being a major issue for most of us at the moment. This got us thinking and we have done some sums, so as a result we have adjusted the price of all Aran yarns and Pendle Chunky. You will find that these yarns are now quite a bit cheaper, hopefully making those larger projects more affordable for everyone. It’s a risky manoeuvre as our costs are also constantly going up, but we will hold out as long as we can. ????

Our sale in January cleared a bit of space for new yarn which will be starting to come through soon in the next few weeks. We have also assessed the older stock and added some of it to the Reduced to Clear section of the website. There is plenty to choose from and the discount code for orders over £100 (100THANKS) will apply to yarns in this category. You will notice that Whitfell Chunky has now been added to the reduced section. Some colours are very low in stock while others have quite a large quantity left. We will not be restocking this yarn as it runs out because quite honestly it just doesn’t sell well enough to justify producing more (sadly!). Whitfell Chunky in Natural will continue to be available and restocked (supply permitting) until the other colours have sold out.

There are several updates in progress and in the planning stage so do keep an eye on our socials and sign up to the newsletter so that you don’t miss out on them. Updates coming soon are Titus 4ply (Merino/silk), Keswick Fingering (tweedy Merino with Donegal neps), Bowland Aran (pure Bluefaced Leicester) and Nateby 4ply (Merino, nylon and silver Lurex).
