It’s the most wonderful time of the year! The first day of July can only mean one thing here at Forbidden Fiber Co – our Advent calendars go up for preorder! We work at these year-round to make sure it is the most fun box you open all year long.

Our 2021 Advent theme is Random Acts of Kindness. We feel that there can never be enough kindness in the world, and we want to do our part to spread it throughout our community. So accompanying each colorway (and each extra), will be a simple act of kindness that you can do for a friend, or even a stranger!

That said, we like to do our Advents a little differently. Instead of an Advent box with 24 (or 25) mini skeins of yarn, we like to shake it up a bit! First and foremost, we work with a knit and crochet designer to bring you an exclusive MKAL/MCAL pattern to go along with your yarn. It’s a little bit different each year, but this year is truly outstanding! We’re focusing on several smaller projects instead of one big wrap or shawl. The knitting patterns are designed by Afifa Knits, and the crochet patterns are designed by Katie Clark Crochet.

Our Advent Calendar this year features 25 wrapped gifts – 18 of them will contain a 25g skein of our Fortitude DK yarn (Superwash Merino), as well as a piece of this year’s MKAL/MCAL pattern. The other seven (7) packages are what we call “rest days,” where you have a chance to catch up on your project if you’ve fallen behind. December is a busy month and we want to make sure there’s no stress involved in this Mystery-along! Each “rest day” package will have a fun little extra for you to enjoy along with your stitching – some are knit/crochet related, and some are just fun! Most of them are handmade by our team at the FFC studio, and all of them are bigger and better than ever this year!

I truly think that this will be our best Advent Calendar yet. So preorder yours and join in the fun!

Hi!

If you have been curious about trying out my yarns and fibers, but want to spend as little money as possible on your first buy (don’t we all 😉 ), I might have the solution for you:

This weekend (Friday July 2nd to Sunday July 4th) there will be a big Independence Day Sale!

All you need to do is shop on my website and you’ll automatically receive these discounts on checkout:
orders over $100 will get 20% off
orders over $50 will get 15% off
all other orders will get 10% off

In case you don’t know me yet:
Hi, I’m Nat and I create spinning fibers and yarn from the raw fleece.
This means I buy raw fleeces that I then wash, pick, card, dye and spin for you.
My loyal mascot and canine supervisor Fiberdog Hestia is the inspiration for the company name and is there for all the steps of my creation process (and quite often appears on my social media). Unfortunately this also means that I do not recommend buying from me if you are allergic to dogs.

Shipping in the U.S. is free, as always.

However, if you are outside the U.S. and would like to order, please contact me through email, so we can figure out how to make that possible for you.

I hope to see you on my website soon and as always: enjoy your crafts!

With the start of summer, I got to thinking about unique ways to celebrate the season. My Twirl design was retired several years ago when the Penannular debuted, but I’ve decided to bring it back in shining silver and bronze with one simple, classic, and elegant accoutrement — the freshwater pearl! If you are a newer member of my community, you might not be familiar with just how this unusual shape works to style your shawls. If that’s the case, I have just the blog post for you. In the spirit of my alliteration-loving nature, it’s entitled Give A Twirl A Whirl. ????

Next, we have a new addition to my Charmed Celtic collection! I chose the Triquetra to expand this crowd-favorite line because of its many meanings, giving each member of our community an opportunity to connect with its infinite design in their own way. Two of my favorite interpretations are that the endless curves represent infinite love or an uninterrupted life, often given as a gift with best wishes for longevity.

The next installment in the Full Moon Color Series, Strawberry Moon has risen at Teton Yarn Company. The Strawberry Moon is the last Super Moon of 2021 so I choose a very special yarn for this special moon: Denali Fingering. Denali is a luscious, luxurious blend of Merino/yak/silk with lovely sheen and drape for that extra special project.

Along with Strawberry Moon, the Summer Grand Teton Colors are here! From alpine lakes to the wildlife, from hiking trails to glorious sunsets explore the Grand Tetons through yarn and color with exclusive, one of a kind colors on a variety of yarn bases.

Sassy Black Yarns began one year ago… in my head. A co-worker told me that I should turn my love of yarn into a business because I would be the perfect one to put extra sass in it. From there I spent a good while debating if I wanted to dye my own yarn or just sell crochet items. I love making scarves and shawls, but I needed something more. I decided to give dyeing a try, and I fell in like/lust/love immediately. I have been obsessed with different colors and textures of yarn for years and dyeing yarn allows me to be creative. I love using my imagination to create new colorways. The possibilities are endless when I put those blank skeins in the pots!

Lakisher Hurst is the owner of Sassy Black Yarns, a hand-dyed yarn company based in East Hartford, CT. My yarn loving journey first started in 1998. After joining the military one of my many duty stations was in Seoul, Korea. I had the opportunity to tour a fabric mill and fell in love immediately. But obviously I did not join the military to play with yarn, so my new love interest had to take the back burner to what I signed up for. I did not think about it again heavily until 2009 when I decided to make my son a newborn blanket but did not know how. So, I took a crochet class at Joann Fabric. I learned the basics and have not put down my hook since.

Born and raised in Hartford, CT, life has not always been easy. But my love of fiber arts has always made me see that life is what you make it. And if you can make it into bright, vibrant colors then you are as good as Yowza Yellow!

Everyone is welcome here!

I love that you came to check out my small business and would love to help you make the projects you dream of my beautiful yarn.

The summer heat is here! And while we are big believers in getting ahead on winter knitting in summer months, we get that a worsted, wool yarn can be a bit much!

With that in mind, we put together a list of our favorite summer products. They're perfect for hot days, summer outfits, and poolside projects.

Let me tell you a bit about each one!

1. Gothfarm Yarn Tshirt (S – 2XXL): Made from 100% cotton and screen-printed locally in Austin, Texas, our Gothfarm Yarn tshirts are a perfect way to show your love of indie yarn when out and about. Goes great with BBQs and camping trips.

2. Aten: Our yarn Aten is laceweight and made from 100% undyed Muga silk. The naturally golden silk catches the summer sun, adding a wonderful shine to your finished objects. Try carrying it along with cotton yarn to add a marled effect to your warm-weather knits.

3. Summer Clutch (pattern): This one is for the weavers! The Gothfarm Yarn Summer Clutch is a simple weaving pattern that uses a single skein of our yarn Kaolin on a cotton warp. This elegant clutch is great for casual outings or formal affairs. It's been my go-to bag for summer weddings for years!

4. Veggie Ivory Buttons (set of 4): These buttons are the perfect finishing touch on any handmade garment. The buttons are carved from tagua nuts, a material known as "vegetable ivory" due to its color and durability. You can keep the buttons creamy white or dye them whatever color you like.

5. Gothfarm Yarn tote bag: Use it to carry WIPs and/or beach towels. The tote is made from canvas and screen-printed locally in Austin, Texas.

6. Muskeg: We love summer sock knitting for its portability and ease. Our yarn Muskeg is one of our top sock picks due to its blend of Rambouillet Merino wool and mohair, which give the yarn durability and spring. Like all our yarns, Muskeg is undyed. The beautiful soil brown shade comes directly from the fiber. Looking for a lighter color? Try our yarn Arkose instead. It's the same weight, made from similar materials, and a blushing white hue.

That's it for now! Stay cool & knit/crochet/weave on.

Our first ever installment of the Jilly & Kiddles Summer Fun Boxes are almost gone! I've enjoyed every second of planning and curating this box for you and it's such fun to watch everyone receiving them. Thank you for the great reviews! If you forgot to purchase one or haven't heard of it until now, it's not too late to check them out. Each Box is full to the brim (does a box have a brim? …you know what I mean) of summery fingering weight mini skeins and extra-special extra goodies, including a custom tote bag you can put everything in. Want to get in on the summer fun and knit or crochet along with us?
