Yarnies — it’s time to get your Fall on. Between last visits to the beach, final cookouts with friends and family and getting the kids ready for school, we’re all yearning to get that first sweater or shawl of the season off the needles or hook. I’ve been holed up in the dye studio working on new colorways to be released in September, but a few of them have me so excited that I just can’t wait.

Meet Gigli, a vivid Harbour Singles Fingering that captures the extinction burst of autumn colors we so love, before the trees shed their leaves for the long winter. (Rhinebeck sweater, anyone?). Pair it with Picante, a deep red glazed ochre, and you can almost feel the heat of the fireplace warming your toes, or use it with Porcino, a warm mushroom taupe.

Harvest Moon or Silvery Moon — which way do you want to go for your Ixchel sweater? Harbour Singles in Round Midnight, shown with Turmeric and Silvery Moon. Decisions, decisions.

Finally, there’s A Miasma of Mohair. I’m so smitten with dyeing Mirage kid mohair silk lace that I’m up to 14 colors currently in stock and adding new colors every few weeks. Use on its own, or paired with a companion yarn and the possibilities go on forever.

Tired of rummaging through project bags and opening them all, just to find a specific WIP? MidMitten Designs’ “Whatcha’ Making?” project bags, with “windows” on the front, make it super easy to see what’s inside.

Made in several sizes by a persnickety home economist, these bags are as good looking on the inside as they are on the outside. Zippers have everything that could catch removed and covered with fabric. All interior seams are bound with bias tape or serged to prevent raveling and keep your projects safe. The XL project bag, with seven (!) interior slip pockets, is perfectly sized for sweaters and afghans and has a vinyl pocket on the front of the bag that’s perfect for keeping the pattern visible while you knit (and the zipper on the pocket keeps all the notions from escaping).

Sometimes it’s easy to put together a new set and sometimes it’s not. Perennial Gardens was one of the easier sets to put together. Naming it was even easier — it’s named after a tea house in Vermont. It will be available at my fall events and available to order on my website in September. Gradient sets are available in three fingering weight sizes and in one DK size.

My first festival of the “fall season” is the Lancaster Fiber Festival Thursday, Aug. 16-Saturday, Aug. 18 and the packing has begun! I’m especially excited for this event because designer Casapinka will be popping into my booth on Saturday! I’ll have kits for her newest design, The Crown Wools, a Mystery KAL that is running right now. I’ll also have samples of many of her designs to show off.

Casapinka’s visit to my booth ties into my next bit of news: visit my blog to check out the prizes for the Lancaster Fiber Festival. You could win a day pass, a class pass OR a Jewel of the Nile Crown Wools kit!

I recently started collaborating with Carolyn Bloom of Bloom Handmade Studio — if you’re not familiar with her work, you need to follow her on Instagram and visit her Etsy shop. I love her creative style and we’re working on something for the holiday season. In the meantime, I will also have a sampling of her wares with me at Lancaster.

I hope to see you there!

Summer is quickly coming to an end as we start sending kids back to school and wait for crisp fall nights that promise cozy knits and blazing bonfires.

And before we know it the holidays will be here! Get a head start on this year’s gift giving with these kits that will help you whip up a quick, fun gift for your loved one.

First up is the My Favorite Things Cowl! One of my favorite movies growing up was The Sound of Music. I would watch it every afternoon after school. I had the entire movie memorized and could probably still recite it back to you to this day. I’ve teamed up with Lina from Lina Knits to create this amazing kit inspired by the movie! Lina designed a really cool cowl that is made up of her favorite stitch patterns featuring some colorways inspired by some of my favorite scenes from the movie. Each kit comes with the pattern, one 50g skein of “Abbey Grey” and five 10g skeins of colorways inspired by popular scenes in the movie. The pattern will be automatically emailed to you, so please make sure you enter the correct email during checkout.

Next I have some Heels & Toes Sock Kits. These kits are perfect for adding a contrasting color for the heels and toes when you’re knitting socks! You could also use these for mittens and use the contrasting mini for the cuffs or fingers. Or maybe a slouch hat with contrasting ribbing and pom pom? The only limit is your imagination!

Hogsmead Treat Bag Preorder

A Halloween Fiber Treat Inspired by the Candy and Sweets of the Harry Potter Series

Harry Potter and fellow Hogwarts students looked forward to the Hogsmead Weekends. Hogsmead Weekends were designated weekends throughout the year when 3rd year and above students with signed consent forms could visit and shop in the nearby village of Hogsmead. A favorite shop was Honeydukes, the candy and sweets shop. Treat bags are limited edition fiber assortments containing a combination of batts, smidgens, and custom blend roving inspired by the candy and sweets in the Harry Potter series.

These treat bags will be similar to the Hogsmead Weekends Fiber Club I have had in the past. However, this is a one time release and while I may revisit inspiration candies used before, the fibers will be all new for this release and not remakes of past colorways.

These are available as a preorder only. Treat Bags will ship the first to mid part of October.

Each Treat Bag will contain an assortment of 6 oz of fiber, plus some extras from the studio. One extra that is already in the works is a special batch of handmade soap. The soap is small batch, cold process, and unscented, but created especially for this Treat Bag.

This fiber assortment will contain wool from my farm with luxury add-ins. The wool from my farm may include Purebred Romeldale/CVM wool, Registered American Gotland wool and/or crossbred wool.

These Treat Bags have Angelina (sparkle). If you would like to order one without sparkle, please message me with that request at the time of your purchase.

Orders close September 20.

Also, during the month of August, use the coupon code “FallSale” for 10% off any purchase in my fibercrafty shop, including the Treat Bag Preorder.
