There are still a few beautiful project bags made with repurposed designer home decor fabrics available. These fabrics are perfect for project bags, and not just because they keep useful fabrics out of landfills. First, they’re durable. They’ve been manufactured to stand up to the use they’d get on all your upholstered surfaces. Secondly, they have wonderful texture. Some are slubby, some have subtly metallic accents, and some have a beautiful, visible weave. Finally, the scale of the motifs means that on bags you get gorgeous little close ups, like pretty birds, watery florals, and sharply graphic swirls. Combine that with all the usual features of a WoolNeedleThread bag, such as waxed canvas bases, pockets, and beautiful handles, and you have sturdy, functional, absolutely beautiful project bags. See what’s available right now on my website.

Hello from ECY Shedquarters! Monday is our last public holiday for a little while. As nice as it is to have long weekends it is quite disruptive. So as a thank you for your patience with us through May we are offering a sitewide 10% discount until the end of Monday. You don’t have to enter a code, just add the products to your cart and the discount will be applied automatically. We will be closed on Monday 29th May and so orders will be processed after we get back to work on Tuesday 30th May and shipped the day after.

We have added two new blog posts this week. First is an interview with Hanna Gough of Germander Cottage Crafts. Hanna is a wonderful knit and crochet designer and we wanted to find out a bit more about her. You can find the interview in the Interviews section of our blog. This is actually perfectly timed as Hanna has a new pattern being released today. Flock Socks are made using Oakworth 4ply and feature a dutch/square heel and memorable stitch repeats. The pattern is worked from the cuff down, with a grafted toe and is written in three sizes. You can find Oakworth 4ply on our website and the pattern on Hanna’s website. Hanna will also be hosting a CAL for her upcoming design, the Beyond cardigan. Beyond is a simple cardigan which is ideal for people wanting to start making crochet garments. The sample uses Keld Aran and it is stunning. You can find information about the CAL on Hanna’s website as well as on her Instagram.

The second new post on the blog is a Projects and Patterns post for Tempo 4ply, our original sock yarn. There are lots of fantastic ideas of how to use this great yarn and it has come at a great time as we have a big Tempo 4ply update in progress at the moment. So take a look and get planning your new projects ready for when the yarn goes live. You can find the post on our Yarn Specific Blog Posts Index along with all our other yarn specific blogs. These are a great resource if you would like to know more about a specific yarn or to find inspiration for how to use certain yarns.

There is also a new edition of The Wholly Irregular ECY Shedcast up on YouTube so please do go and check that out as well. I’ve tried to make sure this one is brief so it won’t take too long out of your day!

Following on from our Oakworth 4ply update we have restocked our Echoing Green shawl kits. Echoing Green is a two colour semicircular shawl, by Jaya of Apoorva Designs, knit using Oakworth 4ply in two shades of green. The design was part of the Four Seasons collection by Jaya which was inspired by classic poetry, with each poem and design embodying the spirit of a season. You can find all four patterns on our website, individually and as a bundle, alongside add-on kits and, when the yarns are available, we also have full kits.

Hey friends! While I’m busy getting the Countdown to Summer packaged up and ready to head out the door, I don’t have a lot of new ready-to-ship items, but I did manage to get these two beauties back in stock: Winter’s Eve is a longtime customer favorite and Summer Berries is another classic and they both make delightful yarn!

Corriedale is an excellent fiber to work with for both beginners and more experienced fiber artists. It’s a longer wool with a staple length of 3-4.5″. Grown in New Zealand with a micron count of 25-30, it’s a great option for outerwear or items you need to handle a lot of wear over time.

Orders ship out the 1st of June and I look forward to seeing whatever fibers catch your eye while browsing!

This week we bring you something a bit shocking. Two colors with surprising potential: Paint the Town Red and Limeade. At first glance, what do you see? The Grinch? A fresh take on holiday classics? Or maybe just the right pop of color to pair with one of our beautiful blues? These are surprisingly versatile, and we can help you pair them with the perfect shade to make your project Pop!

More great color! Our Socksy Ewe sock club is accepting new members. Join and you’ll receive a monthly helping of a full hank and coordinating mini on your choice of base, plus an extra goodie. Subscribe now, and cancel anytime. This is a great way to feed your sock stash with color.

The BEAST is our featured yarn. It’s big and it’s beautiful. Learn more about our 600-yard hank of luxury.

Have you seen the beautiful needle cases from Della Q? They are lovely and sophisticated in modern colors. We deserve good and well-designed tools and accessories to support our craft.

Our custom-made soaps are a big hit. In Cozy Cashmere and Sweater Weather they smell delightful and make a beautiful gift for you or a friend.

The Super Summer Sweater Make-a-Long is moving right along. You can team up with Carolyn by making the Anker Summer Shirt or Team Michelle by making the Beautifully Basic Tee. It’s not too late to join in all the fun.

Yarn Lounge, the premier indie dyer, crafting hangout, shopping experience is nearly here and tickets are flying off the shelves! We’re looking forward to an epic #yarnparty on June 10th at Brewlando in Orlando, Florida. Yarn Lounge is always a blast, so get your tickets now and make your plans because you won’t want to miss out on this fiber extravaganza!

Still a few spaces available on our Falloween 2023 Retreat in Georgia, open for registration now. Don’t miss out on this super fun, laid back, fall retreat in north Georgia. You won’t regret it!

Last but not least, we’re live on our YouTube channel every Saturday morning at 9:30AM Eastern time with all the fun and details. It’s always a delightful adventure, so grab your coffee or tea, your yarn, and let’s have a great time together!

Fiber friends are the best friends! Thanks for being a part of our yarn community, and we’ll be back next week for more updates and adventures!

Huacachina is an oasis in the middle of one of the driest deserts in the world. This small Peruvian lagoon is surrounded by bars and clubs, and has increasingly become a launch point for adventurous sandboarders!

This fun three-color shawl takes a traditional half-pi shape and adds in short row elements to stretch the shawl in a wavy and undulating fashion, not unlike the many mirages you see when visiting Huacachina.

Choose any two funky colored fingering weight skeins, and one skein of your favorite mohair and get knitting! If mohair isn’t your style, just grab about half a skein of another fingering weight yarn of your choice!

For my sample, I used Superstition by Forbidden Fiber Co in Electric and Jewelry Boss, and Fairytale by Happiness Yarn Co in Blaze.
