Treasure Goddess Yarn’s head dyer and yarn pirate Christine has created the perfect yarn for your summer projects! Bamboo Linen Treasures is a plant-based light fingering-weight yarn in seven colorways you can’t wait to cast on. The shimmer of bamboo combined with the structured linen make this yarn perfect for summer tops or shawls. In fact, it’s one of the featured yarns for the Olive Knits 4 Day KAL design Lemon Spritz! (We cast on June 30th, but there’s still plenty of time to grab your kit and join us!) Click through to the blog post to see my Orchid Island colorway test knit in progress (still need to finish neck edging & sleeves, but you can see how yummy this knits up)!

70% bamboo, 30% linen, 100-gram skeins are hand dyed with subtle semisolid tonal effects that knit up into lovely fabric you will love wearing as much as you will love knitting and crocheting with it. This yarn looks as amazing all knit up and crocheted up as it does in the skein. It would become the perfect summer tee, tank top or shawl with lovely drape. Grab yourself a skein or four and ENJOY your summer knitting without having heavy wool sitting in your lap while watching baseball games or knitting by the lake. Join the YARRRRNNNNNN Pirate fun! Ahoy Matey!

Preorders for the June colorway of the Vincent van Gogh Yarn club are now open until June 25th.

This order will ship by the end of June and will include the skein and a fact card about the artwork. This listing does NOT include any of the extra goodies for the yarn club subscribers.

This skein is based off of “Le cafe de nuit (Night Cafe)”, one of the more famous paintings by Van Gogh. The yarn features reds, yellows and a deep blue/green, with speckles of gold and browns.

You may preorder as many skeins as you wish from the selected bases. Preorders will end on June 25th to give me enough time to dye and ship packages.

Available on the following bases:
Light- 2ply fingering, 400 yds/100gram, 100% SW Merino
Sock – 4ply fingering, 463 yds/100gram, 75% SW Merino, 25% nylon
Silky Single – single ply, 438 yds/100gram, 70% SW merino, 30% Silk
DK – DK weight, 231 yds/100 gram, 100% SW Merino

Recently, I had a conversation with a friend, whose 13-year-old son had a group of friends over, including one friend who was trans. According to her son, it’s just a non-issue; it’s “No Big Deal” to them — all everyone in the group cares about is that everyone is nice, and apparently like to play DnD.

I think of that conversation every time another anti-trans bill is passed, every time another law goes into effect that means people who are looking to just be true to themselves are now not allowed to, because someone decided what’s under their clothes is now public concern. Watching what’s going on makes me sad, it makes me angry, and it makes me fearful for my trans friends, the trans children of my friends, and the trans community.

So once again I’m dyeing yarn. I will donate at least $5 from each skein purchased to TIGERRS, Transgender, Intersex, Gender-Expansive Revolutionary Resources & Services, and match at least $500 out of my personal funds (if I can do more, I will). Minnesota is once again a safe state for those who need it, and the organizations here need all the help they can get.

The colorway isn’t the traditional trans colors; instead it’s the favorite colors of the young man who inspired the name. I’m opening this up as a preorder in all the bases I offer. Turnaround time will depend on how many I sell. I’m going to keep this open for as long as possible to take in as many sales as I possibly can. I’m not looking to make a profit on this; I’m looking for a way to help those who need it.

Because how anyone chooses to live their life should be “No Big Deal” and really is none of anyone else’s damn business.

After a whirlwind few weeks, how nice it is to relax a bit, with maybe a cup of tea and peruse an old photo album or ponder times gone by. This week’s colorways are gentle reminders of days of long ago. Vintage, Heirloom, and Hope Chest will have you dreaming of summers past.

Midcentury modern afghans drape over furniture throughout my house, a 1955 ranch decorated as if suspended in time. These were some of the first items I unpacked after moving into my new home in 2020. Acquired from estate sales, thrift shops or handed down, the quilts in patterns of dizzying color combinations would begin calling to me.

Start crocheting again.

I studied fiber arts as a child of 8, working under an eagle-eyed Swiss woman who owned a tiny yarn shop in a converted barn in Queens, New York. I learned to knit, crochet and sew, but working with a hook fascinated me. I remember loving to touch its smooth metal, and feeling empowered by what I could do with my small hands. I made trivets and small blankets, later branching out to craft clothing that always soon fell apart.

It would not be long before boys, not blankets, yarned me over, and the hooks, needles, yarn and thread went into a drawer never to be picked up again.

With one post last year on Facebook, generous yarn ladies gifted all of those supplies and more (by this time, “crochettok” already took over FYP) when I decided to try my hand again. Straight away, I crocheted my first blanket, then another, and yet another, mostly in bed with my dog next to me and a good British crime drama on Netflix. One blanket, in the nostalgic chevron pattern, was so large that when I worked on it, it covered the entire bottom of my body as if it became the entire bottom of my body — you know the feeling.

That is what inspired the “Crochet Maid,” as I like to call her. I try to live the vintage life, even starting an online business during the pandemic, Retro Val Finds, selling midcentury modern goods, the kitschier the better. This big-eyed mermaid’s tail is fashioned after a granny square blanket in my favorite 1970s hues, her dark, long wavy hair and cat eyes like mine.

I just launched a Crochet Maid line (along with other fun products I will be creating in coming weeks): T-shirts, stickers, art, tote bags and phone cases.

These items are print on demand and the T-shirts are available in a wide range of sizes.

As always, we’ve got NEW Yarn Lounge souvenir pint glasses, this year in a super cool black. And as is the tradition, there is a stunning new colorway called “In the Groove” to celebrate the return of Yarn Lounge. It’s an energetic mix of pinks and purples, bright green and black on a field of white. We think it looks amazing with Berry, Crush It, Limeade and Pomp & Circumstance. Good news, it will be available at Yarn Lounge and in the shop, so out of towners won’t miss out. For all the amazing Yarn Lounge yarn and swag, click here.

You might want to grab your yarns from the shop now as we will shut the webstore down Friday evening to prepare for Yarn Lounge and not reopen until Saturday night.
