Hello all from ECY Shedquarters. We have been really busy (as always) but we have a few bits of news to tell you about. We are busy working on a few wholesale hand-dyed yarn orders, including one destined for South Korea! If you have a local yarn shop that you would like to see our yarns in, please do ask them to get in touch with us. We have also been working on yarn for our website and our latest update is now live featuring Eldwick Lace and Keld Fingering.

Eldwick Lace is our fluffy mohair/silk laceweight yarn and is a gorgeous yarn whether used on its own or held double with other yarns. Keld Fingering is a blend of Merino with linen spun as a singles yarn. The linen gives the yarn a rustic and slightly uneven look due to the slubs of linen throughout which doesn’t take the dye in the same way as the Merino. This means the yarn has a slightly marled effect, especially in the darker colourways. These two yarns are both absolute favourites of ours here and so this update is a big one. We have lots of semisolid colourways of Eldwick Lace available and on Keld we have a great mix of semisolids AND variegated colourways.

Some of the blanks are a full gradient or fade end to end and some are “mirrored” so you can end up with two matching socks.

Take a trip to Italy!!

For June’s Travel the World club, we’re hopping across the Atlantic Ocean from DC to Italy!!

When my sister and I graduated college, we were lucky enough to spend a month backpacking around Europe. Italy was one of our stops, and we traveled through Florence, Venice and Rome, with a stop in at the Vatican!

One of the wildest memories I have of that trip is dancing the night away with the Swiss Guards! Yes, those guards, the one you see at the Vatican!! It’s an experience I’ll never forget.

So this month’s colorway is going to be in shades of greens, browns and peaches (because I always think of the countryside when I think of Italy LOL) with some purple thrown in to commemorate the uniforms of the Swiss Guards and that night!!

Available on all the bases from suri to worsted! Preorder will stay open until June 10th, with orders starting to ship by mid-month. All orders will be shipped by the end of June.

We’ve welcomed a new high-tech helper into the studio this week, and can’t wait to share what we’ve been working on together! Along with a cute collection of shawl cuffs, we’ve been experimenting with a new line of hair and shawl pins. Each of these new additions is made from cork, an eco-friendly vegan alternative to leather. Our cork is, lightweight, washable, and has just the right blend of stiffness, flexibility, and a hint of stretchiness.

Of course, you know that I had to see how my new helper could handle my beloved butterflies! These shawl or hair pins come in two sizes and two colors. The pearl is so soft and ephemeral, with just a hint of shimmer, while the natural has playful flecks of metallic sparkle dancing throughout.

Since my community has long shown a preference for Celtic-inspired styles, my next test was to try out some Triquetras. I love how the knotwork shines in high contrast against the pearl, or with more subtle paths against a natural backdrop.

Tempo 4ply on the website now!

I have some exciting news for you today: our bumper Tempo 4ply update is live on the website and we have lots for you to choose from. We have several variegated colourways in this update as well as a wide range of semi-solid colours.

Tempo 4ply is our original sock yarn and is 75% Superwash Merino / 25% nylon. The Merino in Tempo is less fine than many of our other yarns meaning that it isn’t as soft but it is more durable and hard wearing making it perfect for socks, toys, homewares and garments; but it also works well in shawls including for lace patterns. Being Merino, this yarn is still soft enough for next-to-skin wear for all but the most sensitive skin (✋ sensitive skin here and I can wear it).

These giant rodents have stolen many hearts and it’s easy to see why. June begins Hurricane Season for those who are in storm prone areas. It’s a time when our thoughts turn to storm preparedness and considering what our plans are should a “big one” come our way.

We know they’re coming, you know they’re coming.  Hurricanes make us sweat every year! Now that we’ve entered Hurricane Season 2023, we will prep for them as we do an unwanted guest and hope their stay is short and non-destructive!

But what do yarnies do in the face of crisis? We stitch!
