The Winter in MN Countdown Calendar is inspired by those cold months in the state I now call home. There are options for a single skein, weekly sock sets, and the traditional 20 minis plus one full skein. There are also options for both DK and sock weight depending on preference.
The single skein option is a MCN blend and the other options are a 75% SW Merino, 25% Nylon blend.

I hope you have been able to start the month without falling victim to too many jokes and pranks. Personally I only fell for one — by my husband and our dear dog Hestia (yes, she helped him and I can’t even be mad because she was a good girl and did exactly as he had told her).
But back to fibery things!
Today I have both a new yarn and also some fibers for you. As always I started with the raw fleece and then washed, combed, spun and dyed everything myself.
Let’s start with the yarn Sunset Sky!
All the pretty colors in the evening sky are what inspired me to dye this colorway. Blue, orange, pink — this yarn has it all and in so many different tones and shades. It is a joyful burst of color for all those spring days that might be too rainy to truly enjoy time outdoors.
Here are the details of the yarn:
– 277m (303 yards)
– 120g (4.2oz)
– Weight: Sport (17 WPI), category 2 (fine)
– 100% wool (Corriedale)
– $37.50 per skein
Unlike the new yarn, the new fiber braid is carded (but both are made from the same fleece). It is the result of using a dye bath that didn’t exhaust completely and such a lovely salmon color! It is every so slightly textured, meaning it will give your yarn some extra character, without drifting off too far into the art yarn area (though you can of course still use it to make art yarn as well).

Politics aside, the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine is heartbreaking and the damage to the people, buildings, and infrastructure overwhelming. Like many, it’s hard to go about your everyday humdrum life without feeling exceedingly grateful for that normality – and it’s impossible to comprehend having that turned upside down.
Creating these knitting patterns and kits is a way to try and assist, in a very small way, in making things better. All proceeds from the sale of these patterns and kits will go directly to humanitarian organizations doing that good work in Ukraine.

Daffodil or Narcissus is one of the first flowers that pop up with the coming of spring. The delicate yellow, peach, white and salmon flowers are one of the few that can push up through the snow and stay in bloom for the majority of the season but it is a bad omen if the first daffodils of the year are seen with their heads towards you.
While the origin of the names are disputed one of them points us to the Greek myth about Narcissus who fell so much in love with his reflection he wasted away, died and then was turned into a flower, the daffodil. It’s been thought the name came more from the word Narcao “ to become numb” which is what any part of this plant will do to you. Just this harbinger of spring’s scent in an enclosed space can cause headaches and vomiting. The bulb, if ingested, causes the paralysis of the central nervous system leading to collapse and eventual death.
Because of these traits Daffodils are associated with death in the Greko-Roman world and commonly used in funeral wreaths in early Egypt. It is also said that Hades used daffodils to first lure Persephone into the Underworld.

Two posts in two weeks! This week we have had an update of Eldwick Lace, our fluffy superkid (ie the finest/softest we can get) mohair/silk laceweight yarn. It is a beautiful yarn to use on its own as well as held double with other yarns. When this yarn was first added to our range we wrote a blog post about it which you can see HERE. For inspiration of how to use Eldwick Lace check out our Projects and Patterns blog post HERE. There are so many lovely patterns that use this yarn so hopefully you will find something to get the creative juices flowing. I hope those are helpful and inspiring for you — I always love to revisit them when we link to them. ????
By the way, the fibre info on the yarn labels is slightly wrong (the website is correct) — it’s been changed from 70% superkid mohair/30% silk to 72% superkid mohair/28% silk. It turns out I missed this and didn’t update our labels before printing out about 150 of them, and I have to be honest I don’t think I can justify re-doing the entire lot for just 2% difference (the labels are costly these days and it’s the time we’d have to spent changing them all!). So I hope you can forgive me for that oversight!
