Joanna from Silver Key Stitches has published her first shawl pattern! Perfect for these cooler days, this triangular-shaped shawl uses a twisted stitch pattern that will create a warm, beautifully textured fabric while keeping you interested in your knitting — without a cable needle! Knit in a DK-weight yarn, this project will fly off your needles and you will find yourself reaching for it again and again to compliment whatever you are wearing.

Stitch Stuff Yarn has bulky yarn hat kits that include two skeins of yarn and a hat pattern designed by Erin (Stitch Stuff Yarn co-owner). The pattern is a simple ribbed hat that fits most head sizes with or without a folded brim. Each Kit includes two skeins of bulky weight yarn.

January is called Selfish Knitting month, because after all the holiday gift knitting (and crochet, too!) we did, it is finally time to focus on knitting something for ourselves. It isn’t really selfish to make something for yourself. It is a lovely practice to make something you like, using good wool and tools, and have the thrill of wearing it and saying, “Thank you. I made it myself.”

To spoil yourself, we bring a restock of Woolf, our most luxurious base from our Gilded Ewe collection, in colors never worn by Woolf before. You’ll love the way this yarn feels, made from 70% grey alpaca, 20% silk, and 10% Cashmere. See all the new colors on Woolf in addition to those already in the shop:

Woolf is a great way to add luxe to other bases. See the beautiful pair of socks, our Carolyn made using our sock base Twain held with Woolf to make a squishy, sturdy, soft pair of DK socks.

inTandem zine Issue 2 is now in the shop. We love the modern comfy cozy designs in this book by Pattern Design Circle. Six great patterns with beautiful textural interest are featured in the book that also comes with digital download codes for Ravelry/Payhip. It’s a great value!

Don’t forget to get in on the Pantone 2024 Color of the Year preorder! Based on last year’s Viva Magenta, we think Carolyn’s interpretation of the 2024 color will be a peach!

After seeing the beautiful prize package for our 2023 Yarn Challenge, you’ll want to get started on the 2024 Yarn Challenge right away. Download your free 2024 challenge worksheet today.

Last but not least, we’re going live on our YouTube channel, The Traveling Two Ewe Knit, this morning at 9:30AM Eastern time. We’ll be streaming live from Orlando Distaff Day in Orlando, FL. You can learn more about Distaff Day here. Grab your coffee or tea, your yarn, and let’s have a great time together!

Fiber friends are the best friends! Thanks for being a part of our yarn community, and we’ll be back next week for more updates and adventures!

Are you curious about where your wool comes from? Would you like to know exactly what journey your yarn takes between sheep and knitter, and how different breeds, farming practices, spinning methods and dyeing techniques contribute to your final project?

Join our year-long club to deepen your understanding of wool by exploring six different farm-specific yarns! You’ll receive a new box every other month with two skeins of yarn (one hand dyed and one the natural colour of the sheep) and all the info you’ll need to understand what makes each wool special and to plan the perfect project to take advantage of its particular characteristics.

All the yarns for the 2024 Beyond Merino subscription boxes will be sourced directly from the farms we’re collaborating with. There will be a strong focus on Canadian farms and yarns, with a box or two from farms outside of Canada.

Debbie and Elizabeth will be your guides through this year of wooly adventures (with help from the sheep farmers we’re collaborating with), and we’ll be meeting on Zoom to share our thoughts, impressions, and project planning for each box.

We’re offering a couple of different payment options for this yarn club, so you can choose to pay for all six boxes in advance or sign up for a recurring subscription. You can find all the details about what to expect on our website and please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions!

Are you Creature Curious? Wanting to learn about all manner of magical, mythological, mystical cryptids? ⁣

You now have the opportunity to, with the Creature Compendium, our large project/blanket club! In 2024, we’ll be visiting countries across the world to learn about one of their creatures of lore. ⁣

Whilst we’ll be hopping from country to country, our colourways will have a much smoother transition in the form of a gradient/transitional flow, with variegated colourways that fit nicely into a gradient that cyclically spans the year. The 12 months will flow into each other, making it possible to start your project from any point.

Even better? We’ve got a wide range of bases available, including plant-based yarns, non-Superwash yarns and our Superwash bases with sizes available from 20g to 150g!

There’s a lot of choice and a wonderful little community on Facebook to join to share your projects and pattern ideas.

Sign-ups are open until the 15th of January.

We’ve had some beautiful yarns and amazing creatures in previous years so head on over to The Bestiary for a taste of compendium chapters past! For now, though, take a little look at the wonderful colourways from 2022, when we did a six-month deep dive into two countries to learn about their creatures with the Democratic Republic of the Congo and The Philippines.

I hope you’re finding some time to rest and reflect this week — for me, this is the week that I’m usually not preparing anything and just taking some time to think about what’s next. I have some ideas that I want to develop and explore next year, and that means clearing away the cobwebs to make space (mental and physical!) for something new. So I’m having a quick sale on everything on my website. Use the code TAKE10 for 10% off everything.

There are beautiful, sturdy, one-of-a-kind project bags in small, medium, and large sizes. Many feature repurposed fabrics or collages of beautiful, durable waxed canvases. I also have large waxed canvas totes, small items including handmade stitch marker sets and key rings, and even handbags, all on sale, all handmade by me. Please note that the code can be used on sale items but will not work with any other discount offers. You’ve probably spent a long time now making sure everyone else would have a joyful holiday season. How about doing something for yourself and taking advantage of a rare WoolNeedleThread sale? It will only last through the 31st, so don’t wait!

“I found I could say things with yarn and needles that I couldn’t say any other way… things I had no words for.”

Introducing the 2024 artist yarn club – Georgia O’Keeffe!

We will spend the year exploring her art and life through yarn. From her early years as a watercolorist to her florals and landscapes in oil and then her return to watercolor. It’s sure to be a fascinating journey!

This year I am offering two subscription options:
If you choose the YARN ONLY tier for $30 a month you will get yarn and a fact card.

If you choose the YARN+FUN tier for $45 a month you will get a skein of yarn, the fun fact card, a monthly stitch marker and one to two other items that are O’Keeffe related. Some items may be knitting/crochet tools, others may just be fun items.

ALL subscribers will also receive a discount on other items from my shop including the option to order more of each monthly color at a discount.

All packages will ship between the 28th of that month and the 2nd of the following (to allow me time to get preorders together, items purchased/made and things packaged up).

You can subscribe on my website by clicking the link. Still have questions? Feel free to send me an email!
